Salary database

Salary threads in this forum usually fall into two categories:

1.- Can I SURVIVE with 500k in {{enter_location}}

2.- Do you think that 75k is enough for a family of {{enter_number_of_people}}?

Answers fall into three categories:

1.- {{enter_imaginary_salary}}K is the bare minimum.

2.- {{enter_number_of_years_ago}} years ago, I used to make {{enter_imaginary_salary}}K for smiling at dogs.

3.- It depends on {{enter_blah_blah_blah_argument}}

What about we create an up to date database of (real world)salaries in different sectors. That way people wouldn't have to ask this question so often and avoid reading out of date posts.

I suggest this format:

Family of {{X}} in {{ch_location}, working in {{define_sector}} as {{define_title}} with a household income of {{xyz}}K/year.

Average monthly expenses of {{xyz}}CHF/month. And with 4 pre-defined lifestyle selectors:

Lifestyle A: Check my Bank account once per year. Don't really care

Lifestyle B: As long as I don't eat Kobe beef every night, I don't really check my expenses.

Lifestyle C: I check my account once every two weeks to make sure we are within budget.

Lifestyle D: That Serafe "Rechnung" will have to wait. Eating is my priority.

You may now groan

You mean like glassdoor?

Yeah, but with real data and not some made-up, script-kiddy AI stating that a Sr Project Manager in ZRH should be earning anywhere between 95k and 600k

Like https://zeigdeinenlohn.ch?

Cool... and you're volunteering to make it and then keep it current and updated?

I tend to think if you can't work these things out for yourself then you're already overpaid.

What one can survive on in Switzerland is often very far away from what is achievable and especially these days I see people taking jobs on a salary more than enough fro them to live off but significantly less than what would be achievable. Market forces I guess, very much driven by the current exchange rates.

Angular?

Truth pills or lie detector?

Salary secrecy in Switzerland is a huge problem. It not only allows companies to pay lower than market rates to anyone but also feeds the pay-gap for women.

If the forum has an API, I could fully automate it ;-) All I need is real data.

More like sex aftermath honesty.

Yeah, but without the privacy trade-off. Also, zeigdeinlohn.ch is not very representative of the highly skilled market.

Electronic Cattle Prod. You can get yours at Landi, so much easier to find than the two other choices.

That's interesting. I can get an electronic cattle prod at Landi. What do they cost? Can you send a link. How many pokes do I get before I need nw batteries? Are they effective against HR reps?

ch_location is very important.

(car leasing + insurance + gasoline + taxes )= (rent of average 3.5 room flat in ZH agglomeration) - (rent of new 3.5 room flat in AG)

In a certain way, living with carrots and potatoes as neighbors yields a car for free

For you perhaps, but if it were a ‘Huge’ problem we’d have had at least one referendum on it, a few newspaper articles, a topic of local conversation etc. and yet in the 30 years I’ve been here I can’t say I heard any of it.

The Swiss like to keep their finances private, but that does not mean we don’t know what the going rates are.

why? that range is quite realistic. 95k through a body shop if you are fresh out of university and have no clue, 280 CHF/hour as an external consultant and have no clue but you know the CFO since Kindergarten.

In a former life, company management used salary surveys from Kienbaum (management personnel) and VEB (finance personnel), among others. This salary survey information was not free but it was available and worth the cost.

I didn't know that the obvious pay gap women experience in this country was normal. But yeah... let's call it normal and unimportant since nobody has ever mentioned it.

You forgot 700Kk if daddy is the CEO.

Of course it is not unimportant, you do know that that issue is being addressed by the new procedure according to the Gender Equality Act - an independently audited review for firms with more than 100 employees.... Which did f* all....

Really and given that the law only came into force at the beginning of July and the first reports are not due yet, what did you expect would happen?????

Generally, companies scrable to be compliant before a law or regulation comes into effect.

You can't tell me that companies don't know their own staffs' salaries, and can't compare these. Especially companies wil salary bands per grade, it becomes trivial to compare male:female salaries in a specific grade.

Let's not go into discrimination in senior roles...
