Salsa scene in Lausanne?

Hi Guys

I took some salsa classes back in Toronto and would like to continue in Lausanne. Is there any dance studio where the instructor can speak and understand little english. Since I am a guy, I need to master my moves and be little more comfortable in leading. Are there any beginners (of course woman) who would like to practice and join some salsa dance school.

Thanks

Rlehal

Hey Whitney

Are you into Salsa dancing? if so let me know. Also we pretty much have our beach volleyball team ready to roll.

The most popular dance school in Lausanne/ Geneva area is K'Danse and some teachers do understand and speak a little english - my friend Lizette who doesn't speak much French is loving the lessons and you can usually make out the moves and the classes aren't too busy hence it make things easier to pick up.

Here's the website http://www.kdanse.ch/lausanne/pages/ecole-intro.htm - if you look for anything in particular just ask me I know the teachers and I speak French :-)

Tonight off to Lausanne at Movida and tomorrow night Movida first and then Atelier Volant!.. And even if you don't dance, those places are great for a good night out watching others dancing and fab cocktails :-)

Hi Lydia

Do you go salsa very often? Iwill come out this weekend. What I am looking for?..I know the basic moves and stuff. I want to practice more little on the intermediate/advance side.

and if you know some teacher who does speak and understand little english, that would make things little easier or even to have some english speakers in the class would help.

Do I salsa very often...? Eeerrr OK.. Every Wednesday, Thursday Friday and Saturday so far for the past month and a bit! I just love it

I think the best for you is to come out to some of the evenings and ask the teachers there what level they think would be the best for you so that you get into the right class as they have so many diff. levels (compared to London which was Asbolute beginners, beginners, Improvers, Intermediate and Advanced). I use to teach salsa in London and know a few the teachers here and the ones I know from K'Danse are good and clear. Dagmara runs an improvers/ intermediates level class on Sundays and speaks English.

Hope this helps!

Lydia

Great..here is a suggestion. How about you start teaching. There are a few people who are interested, but like to have some english speaking teacher

Yeah..I looked at their website, but couldn't find any teacher with name Dagmara..unless you were talking about a different place . I will try to come out tomorrow night or friday, if you are going out to be there.

OK... made a mistake in her name it' s Damaris http://www.kdanse.ch/lausanne/cfm/re...cfm?staffid=67

Thusrday night I'm at Movida until about 11pm and then at the Atelier Volant... email me before 6pm tomorrow if you're gonna be there so I look out for you! Friday I don't know where I'll be just yet.

As far as giving lessons in English... I can't just set up my classes but I'm sure if there's a few people wanting classes in English either it might be agood idea to speak to the school here and if there's a lot of interest they might start one -

Lydia

Thanks for all the info...its been very useful. And your email would be.....

Whit, Lydia, Raj, Lizzy;

Good evening! I'm happy to hear there is so much excitement about salsa in Lausanne...and I appreciate the referral to Kdanse.com I found this forum in my search for beginner salsa lessons in or near Lausanne...so thanks again.

While I generally enjoy dancing...and have the desire (and hopefully moderate ability) to learn salsa, I am clearly not ready yet to join your group for a hardcore salsa evening. However, between now and when KDanse better prepares me...is anyone interested in meeting for drinks around Lausanne? I am free this Wednesday (March 28) or the middle of the following week. If so, just send me a private message. Until then, best of luck with the salsa.

Chad

looks great..

anyone know if there are buses going to kdanse from the centre of lausanne?

hayley

oo! one more thing..

lydia, where's la movida?

cheers,

hayley

For the Kdanse in Lausanne, take the number 6 to the second last stop direction Praz Sechaud. The stop is called Boveresse. You then walk 1 minute and turn right into an industrial estate. K danse in on your right.

Don't know the dance school, but used to work near there.

Takes about 15 minutes from Belair.

happy dancing!

Thanks a lot for the info!

Do you know if the bus is 24 hours? I know that at least some of the buses are in Lausanne.

Also, where's belair?

# 6 is not 24 hour bus service, but it runs pretty late. Belair is close to St. Francois.. and La Movida is like 2-3 min walk west of Belair.

i can't find bel air on googlemaps..

is it west or east of st francois?

if you have the address for la movida, that would be even better... i'm kind of considering going tomorrow evening.. but not completely sure yet..

hayley

aha! just found it on the web..

Place chauderon 5.

Hayley Girl

Just sent you apersonal message. Movida is easy as pie to find .. especially now you have the address (Look for POCO LOCO restaurant) - I should be there from 9:45 onwards.

Any of you guys who aren't into dancing but like party atmosphere, fab cocktails (with & without alcohol) and latin music and dancers in the background then Movida is the place!

I'm ALWAYS there Wednesdays and Thursdays.. mostly dancing!

Lydia

This is a fabulous thread!

Still working on things here and hope to be in Genva-ish area (more than likely Lausanne) and the first thing was to find good salsa!

As for yoga and pilates.... guess I better create a thread!

Hey ignorant Bliss!

Let me know when you're about and then come down to Movida, plenty of dancing there and I can introduce you to people .. what level of dancign are you?

Lydia

Hi LBG!

I think I am intermediate. When I started salsa lessons here in DK they put me in the intermediate class. A rusty one, for sure!

Funny I was in Morges last week! Hopping off the train and into a taxi. Just a quick fly by visit.

Are the salsa lessons in English or French? Ours here are in Danish only, which was weird.. they are playing music in Spanish which I speak, listening to the instructor's ,directions in Danish while speaking English with my partner... my head gets VERY full at the end of the evening!
