I'm about to move to Lausanne in January and I was wondering if anyone knows if there are any decent salsa classes/bars/clubs around there... I'm living in London at the moment, and there's quite a vibrant salsa scene over here.. would be a shame if I can't dance any more!!
Dont worry there are plenty nice salsa bars in Lausanne. The one im going pretty often is called La Movida, which is right in the center. Consider the population of hispanic here, you ll easily find a life here
Hurrah! So does this club have lessons too? Advanced /Intermediate levels? Are the dancers good? Sorry about all these detailed questions but I used to go every week and you have to know how to separate the good guys from the slimy ones!
Well was doing a search on salsa clubs in Lausanne / Geneva area when I bumped into this site .. thought I'd register! I'm from London too and was teaching salsa there for the last 4 years, I also taught Modern jive for 9 years.. After a job offer I couldn't refuse, I moved to Morges (20mins from lausanne) at the beginning of December 06 and now that my flat is almost sorted I need to go out and dance.. I was dancing at least 3 times a week in london and I really miss it!
I have heard of La Movida and also l'Atelier Volant... like you I don't want to be dancing with the "grinders" ... I'm contemplating going this weekend 12/13 Jan.
Like Lydia, I was surfing the net looking for dance schools in Morges/Lausanne when I found this site. I just had my very 1st salsa lesson on Friday and had a great time! The school is called K'Danse ( www.kdanse.ch ) and they have classes in Ecublens, Lausanne, etc. I've been told they're one of the largest dance studios in this area, offering the widest choice of dance lessons. They used to have a studio in Morges, where I live, but they closed it down. So I'm taking the class in Ecublens.
Anyway, I'm planning on continuing with the classes and maybe try some others. I'm fairly new in the neighborhood, so I'm still trying to find my way around the area and find interesting things to do and new people to meet.
So if anyone's interested, maybe we can arrange something! :-)
Cool so you live in morges too! How long have you been here then? Would definitely be interested in meeting up.. you probably already know more about the place than I do... that's easy cause I know nothing!
I have heard about K'Danse but I don't know whether they hold "freestyle" nights which is what I'm looking for. I'll have to call and enquire. Last night I went to La Movida and then onto Atelier Volant in Lausanne and altough the music is Latin.. the crowd is well... not really a dancing crowd unfortunately, it was completely packed with people just standing around bouncing with the drinks and cigarettes in hands.. which is great for them Did get a have a few good dances with a couple of guys but apparently the good nights are a bit further out.. we could try them if you're interested?
probably could meet up for a drink too sometime next week?
I've been in Morges for about 10 mos. now, but been so busy with work that I haven't really taken the time to look around. But now I'm making the time!
I just checked through the K'Danse brochure and I see that they hold 2-3 dance "parties" a month, and quite a few of them have Salsa. Another one that they seem to hold a lot of is Disco-Fox, which I have no idea about, but am interested in looking into.
Sure, let's meet up for a drink next week. Wed and Thurs are both good for me. We can find a place in Morges. Hayley, you're welcome, too, if you're already in the area...
After seeing this thread, I asked a friend of mine in Lausanne who is very into the Latin culture here about the salsa scene. This was his response:
"Salsa is for eating and not for dancing... . As far as I know, there are many possibilities in Lausanne, you can go dancing at the Atelier Volant and at the La Movida and there may even be dance classes there. There are also dance classes at the University of Lausanne."
Yeah thanks Chris. Though I already have tried La Movida and Atelier Volant last Saturday and although both places were really really busy.. no one to really dance with. Maybe on another day of the week?
Thanks for the offer of meeting up... sadly, I haven't quite got myself to Switzerland.. hope to arrive in the next month.. so hopefully we can organise something then!
Does anyone know of any good dance classes in Berne? Also any good clubs I can join to get to know people? It would be nice to make some new friends and meet some people from the US as well.
Coming back from 2 years in London! I used to take salsa lessons there and would like to take lessons in Switzerland as well. Let me know if you have found anything interesting around Geneva. I know the Movida and Atelier Volant and really like them.
Since my last post in this website I've expended my circle of salsa venues... and yes Atelier and Movida are very good if you know which nights of the week to go! Maybe we could meet there either a Wednesday or Thursday? I'm off to Bern for a salsa night at the National theatre, it's always very good, dancers are good too and the evening finishes very late..
Saturday night there's a freestyle night in Montreux and those nights are good too.. I always go and it's ran by K'Danse.
Let me know if you fancy meetign up sometimes!
Take care and whatever you do have a good weekend.
I used to take lessons in Goodge Str and went a few times to Havana in Fulham, which is a bit like la Movida... (can be good or bad depending of the day)...
I am spending my last 3 weeks in London and will arrive in Switz after Easter, so will get in touch with you then!
Ohhh, I want to go dancing too!!! All my friends are into just drinking and some days you gotta dance! I live by Vevey and would love to meet up in Lausanne or Montreux! So if anyone is hitting the town not this weekend but maybe next, please give me a call!!
