Salt Cancellation Fee

Hi,

I'm in a situation where I wanted to cancel my subscription (because I'm graduating and will leave the country) but it said that I have to pay 700 CHF to cancel it because I did 2 years of contract. The thing is, I didn't know it was a two years contract because the girl who helped us cannot speak English at all. We told her that we will be leaving in 6 months and she still put us in 2-years contract. And I just realized about the 2-years contract now, after I asked to cancel my subscription.

I went back to the Salt store in our city and they said if I try to get an attestation letter from the Controle Habitant, I might can cancel it without paying it (or at least not paying that much of amount). I did get the attestation letter and I have to pay for it and when I go to the Salt store, the girl said I have to call the Salt Cancellation number and when I called them, they still said I have to pay CHF 700. Then why that girl have to tell me and waste my damn time to go to the Controle Habitant and get the attestation letter when it's not gonna freaking help?

Don't make your customer around and waste their time and money when it's not gonna change anything. And it was such a sneaky act for that girl to put me in a 2-years contract when it could be a 1-year contract and we just have to pay the 6 months left for the cancellation fee.

And every month, we have to pay not CHF 35 like the girl from Salt store promised, but CHF 40! and now to think about it, we only have to pay CHF 630 (remaining of 18 months multiplies by CHF 35). Why do we have to pay CHF 700?

Does anybody has a advice or suggestion on how to deal with those sneaky Salt people?

And btw, their customer service is just the worst.

Did you get a phone with your contract? If so you really do have to pay that off.

Otherwise it is your responsibility to read what you're signing up for.

It's the wifi one.

Irrelevant, you got a free phone, the cost is within you subscription rate over the contract period.

Pay up !

It's not the phone one! I bought the wifi modem and its the wifi subscription.

Is not difficult to find online Salt General Terms and Conditions, 1st result with Google is a PDF in English. This is what you agreed signing the contract, I'm afraid.

Furthermore, maybe you are paying 5 CHF more just because you opted for detailed bill sent monthly by post, instead of Bill by e-mail or E-bill, both free of charge. A quick look at the Salt website (yes, in English) could have saved you a lot of stress.

Try AGAIN with their dedicated customer service, you never know

however when you subscribe a 2 years contract you pay less monthly compared to a 12 months or a monthly subscription, that's why you have to pay a fee in order to leave in advance. Easy and FAIR.

I am in a situation in which we are leaving Switzerland earlier than expected. When this happened to me in Germany a few years ago, all companies canceled our contracts if we proved we were leaving the country. UPC etc. here in Switzerland have done the same. SALT is the only one not allowing us to do so... the cancelation fee would be more than if I paid out the last 10 months of our SIM only plan. I wonder if there is somewhere I could advertise for someone interested in taking over our plan. We got it on a web special at the time for half the normal monthly rate....

Slightly old thread. Would one be also allowed to transfer the contract to another?

This could easily be passed to a DCA in his own country.

People need to start taking responsibility for their own screw-ups... The Salt contract clearly states what the minimum contract period is. If people sign that and then leave early, what do they expect? And the fact that some companies may be more tolerant about early cancellation than others is not an argument.

last week, someone gave a similar advice on one of the facebook for sale groups in Switzerland. rather shocking really and not good for foreigners in general.

In my book this reads: I signed something in a foreign language that I did not understand and I should not be held responsible so it is deception!

This:

Did you resolve this issue? I recently finished my PhD and will be moving out as well. I strongly sympathise with you, as when one moves from abroad, everything is different and it can be quite confusing. Also, with all the duties at university, one wants to get over the logistics ASAP! I just called Salt last week, and they also told me that I could cancel my contract by showing them the attestation that I was moving out of Switzerland and no fees were mentioned. So did UPC and my health insurance companies. The customer service at all of these companies was actually quite friendly to me. I hope not to have issues with this once the time comes!

Wishful thinking! Get that in writing!

Doesn't match up with the experience of other ex.-Salt customers on this forum.

Doesn't mean there won't be any. If you got a device at a reduced price when signing, you probably will have to pay the monthlies for the rest of the minimum duration, otherwise a 100 CHF fee.

Fr. 100.--? Is that really the documented maximum amount?

Actually, I just got off the phone with Salt customer service (I called after getting a bit nervous based on the information in this forum). They were quite nice again and gave me the same information as when I called them last week. My phone contract has been cancelled from the end of December onwards (I had to give 2-months heads-up), I will be switched to a "pay-as-you go" service from then on. This service will just deactivate after not using it for a few months. The same was done without any fees when I left for a 7-month research stay in the US during my PhD. However, my experience might be different from others because I had my own phone, and the two-year contract period had already passed by the time that I left for the US.

The 2 year period already passed is what makes all the difference. You'd be free to cancel for free anyway, leaving the country makes no diff on such.

I had quite a bad experience with Salt, there should be more topics like this warning people off, or at least that they need to be careful, they want to squeeze money off you and in this country apparently customer satisfaction with the service is irrelevant...
