Salt not showing phone number

I have a contract with Salt (Das Abo) and since more than a year whenever I call Greece, my number is either hidden or showing as if I was calling from another country (Spain, France... you name it). Many people I call won't pick it up as they are afraid of scams. I called numerous times the Salt help desk. Was told that the issue is a general Salt issue (not related to my Das Abo cheap subscription) and that apart from Greece also Italy and Portugal are affected. So far was getting promises that the issue will be fixed this or that date, and they were closing my tickets as resolved. In my last communication today I've been advised to call the Greek operators (as the issue according to Salt is coming from them) and ask for a solution. I refuse to do that, as my firm belief is that this is Salt's job, and as I did a contract with Salt and not any 3rd party they are responsible for dealing with these matters.

First, do others as well experience such issues? Second, what's the best way to move forward? Are there grounds to challenge this from a legal POV? I am just getting pissed to be treated like that. I am effectively locked in a contract and I feel I am not getting the service I've signed for.

Can't help. But a friend of mine from England was not able to call me at all as he was told that I do not accept suppressed numbers so he could not be connected. While this is true, he never suppressed his number.

Technology is not perfect. Send them a sms "I will call you in a minute" if necessary.

That's what I do but I don't find it very efficient...

You may find it Salts duty to fix this for you, but I am certain that they did not sign up to guarantee you that your number will be visible to whomever you call in the world (hint: They can't)

Salt is likely to use E.164 Caller ID formatting which is advised but all but mandatory, if you call to a provider who does not use this, or an intermediary alters the caller ID data/format or does not pass it along at all this is of no concern to Salt and completely your problem, and it is to wonder if switching provider would change the result.

Well, they are supposed to offer telecommunication sevice, and in the year 2018 being able to see the number of the caller falls within the scope of the service. At least that's how I interpret it.

In terms of the "caller ID formatting" I am apparently not an expert, but again it's very hard for me to believe that in our times this is such a complicated matter. At the end of the day the reverse works - when they call me I see the number.

Thanks for sharing your point of you - appreciated!

I often receive calls showing a number totally different from that of the caller. I think it's due to the fact more and more telcos are using VOIP. it is a nuisance though as you sometimes reject calls from people you actually want to speak to!

It happens to other operators, not specific to Salt.

One of my friends has a subscription from Sunrise.

Often when he calls me (but not always) his number is shown with a random country prefix. Then I know it'll be him... So I got used to it.

people still phone other people??? how odd.
