Ramadan in Istanbul is my favorite month!
Please, be respectful and avoid to eat and drink in the street in front of them.
Enjoy, lucky you!

Today I skipped lunch as I was too busy, so I shared their experience for one afternoon. (though i did drink water and coffee)
Afterwork my bus passed through the Malay area of town and it was like Christmas! there were lights lit up all along the main thoroughfare and market stalls with food, lots of food! Also colourful dresses, headscarves, carpet sellers ( it resembled the middle east alot)
It really made me smile, knowing at last my colleagues could have a bite to eat.
Although i am not muslim, I felt a sense of peace tonight when i finally ate my dinner too (with a hungry stomach from lunch)
Selamat Berpuasa to those who are fasting this month.
The Excel version is here just in case.
Happy Ramadan folks, may your hunger pangs be slight!
A long long time since the start of Ramadan has coincided with Swiss National Day - maybe a time for better understanding of respect.
Last time we shared our house with a Muslim friend, Ramadan was in November, so it was a bit 'easier' as days were shorter and cool.
Days are very long at the moment and heat is coming back - so my thoughts are with all of you, especially those who work outside in heavy work.
There is another Eid prayer organised elsewhere by the Mosque on Weinbergstrasse. Details here: http://www.masjid.ch/linked/eid%20ul%20fitr-2011.pdf
Does anyone know a time and place the Eid prayers will be going on in Basel? Ramadan Mubarak everyone!

- Suggestions for some food during Sohour (early breakfast before dawn) is amix of yougort and dates, with oatmeal and honey - that helps a bit, you mayalso add some nuts and dried fruits.
- Try to have a light Iftar (after sunset meal) as it may not be healthy toeat a heavy meal after 9:00 PM

For those who would like to greet their colleagues who practice Ramadan they may say Ramadan Kareem (Like Ramadan is the month of generosity - story isthat they get used to invite any pedestrian or traveler for food, and inRamadan days that was not possible so they say Ramadan Kareem) or as well you can say Ramadan Mubarak, means like I wishyou a Ramadan full of blessings.
