I’ve been using the SBB app to book my tickets because of the discounts available when booking in advance. Am I missing out on even better deals on fairtiq?
SBB App or Fairtiq: which do you prefer?
The CFF app is the Fairtiq app. But the discounts you mention likely are not available to Fartiq, in fact I’ve never seen any discounts there.
I think the CFF suppresses some fare calculations not taking local companies day tickets into account.
For example I took the train to Geneva and then four buses on the TPG then back to Nyon. In one case Fairtiq gave me the train fare plus a day ticked on the TPG. Another time with an identical journey the CFF gave me the train fare plus four bus tickets. Quite a bit more.
As you pay on the fly I would be afraid that due to some malfunctions/internet connection you will earn a fine
SBB app has a similar feature called easy ride and I heard about stories where this wasn't functioning properly...ending with a fine.
In addition, the FAIRTIQ doesn't support supersaver tickets.
Easyride really isn't very good on combining train trips from "Terre Sainte" and TPG rides within Geneva. But then neither is Fairtiq. I systematically complain to the CFF (just go into any of the trips that is incorrectly ticketed, tap on the the 3-dot menu and hit the "Report a problem with this journey") and they've always refunded me the difference though it typically takes 3-4 days.
Fairtiq for daily short commutes else the SBB app with discounts on select rioutes
