SBB etc new fares in 2027

Half fares will go and no more 9 oclock fares. The arse holes!

“SBB’s Half-Fare Travel Pass to Be Abolished
The most popular SBB travel pass is facing discontinuation, as are saver tickets and the 9am Pass. The Alliance Swiss Pass is planning a fundamentally new pricing structure. Reactions are mixed.”

I’d be all for a simplification. Isn’t it enough to have:

  • Peak vs off-peak tickets
  • GA for frequent travellers
  • Instead of halbtax, just make the tickets cheaper

But, but…how will the locals feel superior to tourists?

The interesting thing is they want to introduce “myride” - the more you take public transport, the cheaper it is.

That works exclusively on mobile devices, so older generations would most likely not benefit.

Seems like a great plan - those who would benefit most, you exclude, and then everyone pays more. Make the pricing so complicated you can always say “it’s cheaper” or “we don’t do it for the money”… spend the extra revenue on complicated systems and bonuses, and voila!

Time to get a parking space near the office again…

This is dumb.

Hong Kong had tap on tap off Octopus cards back in 1997.

London introduced the Oystercard in 2003.

There’s no need to use mobile apps. We already have the Swiss Pass, so just use that.

I hate this trend of forcing you to use information stealing apps on your phone for everything.

I have always thought that giving away half the SBB income for under CHF200/year (originally under CHF150.-) was commercial madness…

How else are they supposed to monetize your data?

Plus, SBB have such a stellar record with their app…

Well, taking the Model 3 to work is both cheaper (if you ignore for a moment the purchase price…) and more comfortable anyway.

I hope they stop deducting the yearly fee at least…

Big brother. U Know?

Apparently SwissPass has denied anything has been decided.

The OP’s link has been edited.

Given the public response, they would, wouldn’t they…

From WRS this morning.

Confusion spread yesterday over the future of Switzerland’s popular half-fare travel card.

Reports in the German-speaking press suggested it would disappear by 2027 and be replaced by a new system called “My Ride.”

But the SwissPass Alliance quickly denied the claim, confirming that the half-fare option will remain in place.

The new digital fare model, planned for 2035, aims to simplify a system that currently includes thousands of ticket types.

Authorities say the goal is to make public transport easier to use, not more expensive, and that a half-fare offer will continue in some form.

Unless SBB had already factored that in and were charging people twice as much as they needed to.

You’re aware of the tourist version, yes?

Granted at 120 CHF for 30 days, less of a deal but can still be useful.

None of our visitors have ever found the tourist offer to be attractive. They really need a one-week and a 2 week version. Who comes for a month?

Mother-in-laws don’t want to travel for a month, they want to visit. With a one or two week version you could send them off exploring.

Fair. For us, it made sense. We used it on our first trip where we started in Geneva and worked our way up to Zürich with stops on the way. In hindsight, it would have been worth it on trip 2 but my mother in law made planning in advance difficult.

For some people SBB trains are like their living rooms. Have travelled many places in the world, but only on Swiss trains you find people eating, sleeping, talking very loud (especially foreigners even though residing here), changing clothes, and probably even they would opt to take a shower if there was one available.

Secondly putting your bag on the empty seat beside you to block/reserve that seat is only a Swiss thing. There is an empty overhead compartment above, always empty. Its not like the person is carrying very very valuable items in their bag that they need to have it beside them in their eyesight all the time and that’s why they put it on the empty seat beside them, it’s just the mentality of getting more space, sitting comfortably and not having to deal with people sitting right beside you.

Only if they introduced a fine, that you cannot put your belongings on the seat next to you, then they will realize, they need to vacate it completely.
