My niece and nephew are visiting this summer and we would like to travel with the train. The SBB website states that the junior travel card is only possible if the child is travelling with parents or grandparents.
Does anyone have experience of using these cards despite not having the correct family relationship?
Has anyone heard of proof of ID being required?
Thanks for any information.
As it says, you need to be a parent or grandparent. You could be fined twice, once for each child.
Here is your cheapest answer (assuming that the junior card would not work as you have to show the children's ID when purchasing it and it is at that point that you'd be questioned as to why the children did not have the same names as you)
A day ticket for each child - 16chf.

This has the same validity as a day GA for a child and can be purchased by any adult in possession of a valid ticket, no family link required.
yes : a few years ago returning late from Paris, the ticket inspectors went and asked the children their names to check the children we had with us matched the names on the junior cards. I would have expected next level to have asked them their birth dates .
Perhaps a childrens tages karte for around 16 CHF is a better option.
Also there are some family travel cards around at the moment where I am not convinced the children need to be family members when I scanned the posters.
The family travel cards (Familientageskarte) do not require the children to be one's own, at least the ones available in April. (I read the rules very carefully as we had grandparents in town.)
Be careful when booking via the SBB website. When booking a trip to Paris, even though there were options to tell them I was traveling with a kid, with a junior card, they still charged for the within Switzerland portion of the ticket. So I went to the ticket office instead and saved that money.

Thanks for all the replies and helpful advice. looks like the Chf 16 ticket is the way to go.
So is that the only difference between a “Junior Travelcard” and a “Children’s Co-travelcard.”, i.e. with one you must be the related and the other not?
The cost for both of these cards is CHF30
I realize that this is an old thread, but it makes sense to ask the question here, to keep everything on this topic together.
