It seems there has trouble a brewing in Basel where they have experimented with school uniform . Perhaps surprisingly the "uniform" included trainers and beanie hats. Why bother ? If your going to have a uniform at least make it reasonably formal. Unless our kids are going to be wearing hoodies with "Keep It Real" emblazened across them.
What, no blazers with garish colours, caps, ties, and shorts for 4 years olds and up?? Fair enough, I always considered the uniforms we used to have to wear as kids a bit OTT, especially the shorts in winter thing
Don't forget Swiss have difficulties with changes .
It has been this way for years, why changing anything unless it's broke? (my other half loves to "quote it). Quite a few people that I talk to don't think that uniforms at schools are needed at all. I disagree with them, but ...
It was one of the first things i noticed when i arrived in Switzerland, students didn't have uniforms and schools did not have big concrete slab signs outside their "driveway" or school entrance. I didn't not like my school uniform when i was in school, in fact I hated it, but I hated it more when they decided to make some changes and introduced polo shirts (because no one ever wanted to tuck in their shirts), fleecy sweaters and hoodies, girl pants and beanies. I never went for any of those. It was like the designers or teachers on the school board wanted to make uniforms "cooler" so students would wear them.
Little did they realise that students generally don't want to wear their uniforms properly! They want to be rebels, push the rules a little while still wearing a uniform that says "hey I'm from !!" . A cool, casual look is never going to catch on and they need to realise it. But i guess being traditionally uniformless they've not any experience in designing uniforms. Poor swiss people.
I agree. I definitely appreciated not having to think "what shall I wear today?" every morning during my school days!!! I'm sure my parents appreciated it just as much. It's a great way to set some standards too.
