Secondhand car from diplomat

Hello, I was wondering if there is a second hand car dealership/agent that deals in selling second hand cars that while they are still tax exempt? I have diplomatic status, so I understand I can buy them without there being any tax implications on me. I live in Geneva. Thanks!

This should be in the "first world problem" thread, not in help and tips. However, just to make sure I will say "I really see your pain man, it must be an unbearable situation you are in! Hang in there!"

Hi RahD, sorry I can't help you on that one, but just out of curiosity, doesn't your embassy provide relocation services?

What ́s the relevance of that to buying a car?

Ours does, it would make it rather difficult to assign people to new places and not support them with a relocation?

Well, I'm no diplomat and might well not understand how this actually works, but I assumed such services could point OP to the right direction for his transaction.

To look like a true diplomat, I would go for something like this: www.autoscout24.ch/3486462

I assume you can order the diplomatic flags over the internet.

Seems to be an ongong problem.

Maybe it's always the same embassy/country, leaving their staff in the lurch.

OP, I'm sure you're not the only employee, wouldn't it make more sense to ask your work-mates?

I don't know anything about cars, but want to say Kudos to you for trying to save a few pennies of tax payers of your country by not splashing out on new expensive stuff!

EFers, please don't spoil it for me by telling me that second-hand cars are 'actually more expensive'!

And taking it off the tax payers of the guest-country by not paying import taxes.

Funny how every coin has two sides.

Ah well, we can afford it, OP might be a diplomat from one of these suffering places like Macao or Luxemburg.

Happy to oblige: "Second-hand cars are actually more expensive!"

Most dealers have a diplomat sales dept..

For example : https://www.facchinetti.ch/en/diplomatic-center/

There are loads around where I live, big signs in the windows - Diplomat sales etc.

Just google Mercedes diplomat sales geneva for example

You think they do second hand cars too?

Just be aware that if you want a new one it will have to be imported and will take some time. On the plus side you get to choose (and pay) for all the accessories

I don't see how this is more 1st world problem than 99% of the others posted on this forum.

There is nothing wrong with trying to save money for yourself or for your country while helping the environment by buying second hand.

The OP, I hope you get some helpful replies.

There seems to be such a dealer in Austria:

CAVEAT EMPTOR:

I live in Zurich, picked up a BARGAIN 2nd hand car, with all the options full y loaded (who needs 2 DVD players and stackers in a car???) which was who first owned a doctor for the UN or Red Cross or similar and it was purchased diplomatic tax free car, in Geneva (owner details on the grey slip, so no privacy).

I bought it from the dealer and 50% of the new car price with 30,000 km on it.

BUT THE FINE PRINT... BMW (and probably others) do NOT include free servicing/parts in the deal, the way they do for a "normal' purchase.

That is worth about 15,000 chf. example: One oil change at BMW (Meilen, Zh) on X5 cost around chf 1000 when you have to pay for it (oil air and lots of cabin filters get changed and they - probably overworked apprentice mechanics who don't care - they FK up the oil change and overfill it)

SOLUTION,. void the warranty and now get all servicing done (much cheaper and better) at my very good garage in Erlenbach. Even the brakes he works for life in one area. always does a good job.
