seeking advice for stuck blinds

The external mechanical blinds of my windows have been acting strange for a while. When I pushed the down button, the blinds would lower until they get to the bottom of the window and then start raising again. They didn't used to do that. Yesterday, I didn't "unpush" the down button when the blinds had closed all the way and they started raising again. Now they are stuck open at the top and pushing either of the buttons don't do any good. (This happened once before and two hours later, pushing the down button got them to get unstuck. No luck this time...)

Has this happened to anyone before? I wonder if I can fix it before I contact the rental agency. And whether this kind of thing is covered by insurance.

I think you mean electric blinds rather than mechanical blinds.

And this should be covered by the owner - blinds breaking is not normal wear and tear that you would pay for.

That sounds like the cord pulley has slipped on the spindle or the cord has broken completely.

You need to talk to your rental agency to get it fixed.
