Selling a car to the export garages in Regensdorf

I need to sell my car as I am leaving Switzerland in 5 weeks. Since I will need the car for some of the 5 weeks I am considering selling directly to the car export garages in Regensdorf ZH....

If I sold the car privately, I would be looking to get maybe 1500chf for it. It`s a Peugeot 306 estate by the way...

Has anyone experience of selling to these export garages and what kind of price can I expect to get?

Cheers

They all offer the same pittance - give or take. You could try speaking to Zurlindengarage - he'll offer a pittance too - but may be more convieniant for you.

When was the last MFK and what sort of condition is it in?

I bought the car in March `13 and it was fresh from the MFK.. The car is a 2000 reg, and has 180k on it but in terms of reliability it has been excellent. I`ve driven it to Prague and even Biarritz, France with no problems. It`s old but in good condition, has 2 sets of good tires and needs a good home.

When you say pittance what am I looking at? >800chf?

300-500chf

It will need an MFK - and so any garage will budget 2,000chf for that.

The killer for you is that it needs the cambelt doing (every 90k) - so 300-500chf is about all you can expect.

You need to ask, 500 or less more likely.

Admittedly 10 years ago I sold a written off 306 with 180k to a garage for 1000 fo you might get lucky.

The MFK is only 14 months old so it is still good ish.... right then ricardo.ch it is... thanks for advice

No its not! Car is over 10 years old - so much be done within the 12months on change of owner.

It was my thinking that the MFK lasted for 2 years...

Since on the subject of what a car is worth - or not.. Sorry to join the same thread.

Was talking to a friend at the weekend. He has a 2006 right hand drive Seat Leon, imported from the UK, has swiss plates which are now transferred to his new car. He said something about dual insurance, he can switch the plates between the cars.

Anyways, apart from being right hand drive, the car looks like a golf ball from hail damage, insurance paid out and he has a new car.

He was thinking of trying to just get the Seat scrapped, can't be bothered with hassle of selling.. Best thing to do? Any value?

It does, unless, as I stated, it changes hands at which point, if the car is over 10 years old, the MFK has to have been completed in the last 12 months.

John_H - Put it on Ricardo - highlight that it has Hagelschaden and is right hand drive. Whatever it sells for will be better than nothing.

MFK has to be done after 4 years of buying a new car, then three years after that, then every two years. An MFK has to be done at the time of any modifications to the vehicle too. These are the only Federal rules.

All others rules (change of ownership/10 years etc) vary by Canton and are not universal.

Okay, so...we bought a year 2005 car in 2008. It got called for MFK in 2012 (passed). If we keep it then is it due again in 2014 (2 yrs) or 2015? And if we sell it is the MFK due now at sale, or later this year, or in 2015? So confusing!

John-h,

Since I`ll be returning to right hand drive land, PM me the details...

Will do.. My wife is visiting them today, I'll get some more details, model, miles, etc.

The car is in Gland, VD... But I guess that's not very far if it's a steal and going back to UK.

Please send on the details with pictures of how bad the hail stone damage is.. I`m heading back to Ireland so will need to register the car and pay import tax... All in, it will need to be a big big deal if I`m interested, but probably better than scrappage price

Thanks

It's worth trying a few different places. The first place I was quoted for my beaten up old Audi was 300sfr, a place 50m away gave me 1000sfr. That was in Dietlikon btw.

Thx jaudi, any chance your remember the name of the generous garage in Dietlikon

Sorry, don't remember the name, but map attached. The big black marked one was the cheapskate, the green one paid the money. Both can be seen from the main road, but approach on Widenholzstrasse, past McDonalds and it's just next to Pneuhaus Frank which is marked.

Just 2015 but I think the key is, they'll write to you to tell you. Sometimes there's a backlog - it's still legal to drive.

Excellent effort, jaudi much appreciated
