Sending a bulky package from Konstanz

I have a box to send to EU country (not Germany), 120x60x60, 10kg. I’d like to send it form Konstanz but I’m not sure from where. For example, there’s a DHL point:

Poststation 701
Konstanzer Str. 24
78465 Konstanz

Where I can pay, print sticky label to ship and drop off the parcel, except I’m not sure if my box will fit in.

Looking for pointers where I can send such sized box, the closest to the train station the better. I don’t want to wander about the city from point to point with the box to find a suitable one. I can go there to check first, but I hope you can save me the extra trip.

I’m sending a gift, used computer equipment. For my professional purpose it’s already garbage, taking space in the cellar since 2 years but I never bothered with trying to sell it. However, it’s more than suitable for a student. She’ll be happy with it for the next 2-3 years. The value of this is :person_shrugging: maybe 200 chf, maybe 600 chf. I hope there won’t be any issue crossing the border with it, but actually I don’t care. The problem is rather on the receiving side. Sending from Switzerland the package will go through customs, and who knows what’s the procedure. I’d rather prefer to make that hassle (and cost) free for the receiver.

Just drop it off at the most convenient drop of point for you (which may mean using another courier).

Parcel size isn’t a problem.

But, I would get all the labels/paperwork done on line so they only need to scan it when you drop it off.
Sometimes (most of the time) the staff at drop-off points have no idea what they are doing and it really makes sense to do this stuff yourself.

Loads of places here are courier drop-off points including Avec Kiosks at railway stations and some Apothekes.

Having written all that, you should be fine at a German Post Office.

In the old days it was very simple. Nowadays the problem is that Post-DHL require a valid German sender (return) address to accept the shipment. If you have that, no problem.

Good point which I neglected to mention.

so when a tourist needs to send something back home, for various reasons, for example accident making it impossible to continue traveling with luggage, that’s impossible

Havin a valid German address can be done easily. I assume valid meaning it exists not that it is yours. Use the address of a hotel.

There are also mail forwarding companies that will give you street addresses with their arrangements but that will cost you money.

Or give them @Slammer ‘s address.

Could do that.

Thanks @Slammer , actually I have friends from Germany, not around Swiss border, but it doesn’t matter in this case.

I still haven’t heard any tips about the actual place, but I believe this physical post office (as opposed to the automated DHL Poststation) will accept anything listed in the pricing table (obviously including my box size)

If you take a parcel from Switzerland to Germany there will be Customs charges
