Sorry if this has already been discussed, but searching on this topic brings up far too many hits and all wrong!
I need to send about $100 to someone in SA, as payment for hobby magazines, however so far I've been unable to achieve it! Paypal does not work for withdrawals, Western Union has no coverage, AlertPay seems to have lost the right to process credit cards and the list goes on....
Hey James, you should be able to transfer the cash directly from your account here in Switz to their account in SA. Just get your mate to send you their IBAN and Swift code. I have done so in the past, even received funds from SA.
Hi! Easiest way is through any "Moneygram" office in Switzerland. Money is available in South Africa immediately! We do this every month with no problems. Easiest to collect at Rennie's Travel rather than through a bank.
Just paid some funds to SA to pay for my holiday coming up in June
As previous posters have said, I just made a payment from my bank account here using the IBAN or SWIFT code for the remote account.
Actually, this was far easier and cheaper than when I had to do the same from my bank account in the UK - from the UK I had to fill in a paper form and take it in to the branch- it took 8 days to process and cost me 10GBP for the privilege. I managed to do the whole transaction online here, and although the earliest date that the transaction could take place was 3 days in the future when I filled in the form, the money arrived in the SA account on the same day that it left my CH account (today as it happens ). The cost of the transfer from CH was 5CHF.
Hi, I know this post is old but is there any updated advice on how to get money transferred to a SA account? Last year we made a transfer from UBS to SA account and lost quite a bit of money on the transfer. Is there a better way/method?
If you use their marketplace-option you can get fx-rates above the current mean rate. I swapped EURs for CHFs at 1.208 two days ago, when the mean rate was 1.207.
A transfer to South Africa is charged at 25 ZAR.
By the way: In currencyfair 100 USD would buy you ZAR 1113.30 right now.
They started a recommendation programme not long ago, in which one transfer is free if you use a corresponding link. Let me know if you want to use it. I don ́t like posting such things online, feels too pushy for me.
Just popping by, not 100% that it works in SA, but you could try Revolut https://www.revolut.com/
(I can open a ZAR account, so might work)
Instant top-up from credit card (+other slower options), instant money-transfers (between 2 Revolut users). No fees.
You can even request a debit card from them, I paid around 13 CHF. Can withdraw (up to a limit/month) at any ATM in any currency, no fees and they have very advantageous conversion rates.
I topped it up with RON, converted it to CHF, then sent it to my BCV account for free with Swift.
I assume you could do the same CHF -> ZAR -> SA bank.
If you care for my opinion, I love the platform. Since I don't have a CH credit card yet, I'm using that wherever I can't use TWINT. I've moved/used about 3-4k CHF worth of RON like this.
Depends on the amount. I use my Swiss bank account and transfer to my SA account. It's very fast but there are fees so may not be worthwhile for smaller amounts.
If transferring from the UK I use Moneycorp - less hassle and good rates. Also very fast and no fess at the SA end as they transfer from a SA bank account. But again I'm not sure how efficient this is for very small amounts.
Sure, but the person that bumped did ask if there's any current info. The thread wasn't revived by a spammer but by an established member looking for new info.
