Severe flooding in parts of Switzerland

No, not using my Karcher. There’s a place by the shopping centre with Karcher branding that you can do it yourself. Certainly isn’t pressure washing but you have the choice of soapy water or clean to wet/rinse. A jetton costs 2CHF and I usually need 2.

Yikes!!

Something is happening, statistically it’s not normal to have 4 deaths and 6 missing persons due to floods and landslides within 2 weeks:

Well, an analysis of what happened last weekend in the MeteoSchweiz blog:

It’s called Global Warming.

Many people think it will just mean nicer weather but in reality it will bring much more violent weather.

The Windward Islands have just experienced their earliest Cat. 5 Atlantic hurricane ever recorded, Hurricane Beryl.

I’m tempted to make a direct link but…the first events one weekend before (when the A13 was washed away) might be related to the melting of the late snow this winter. Anyway, higher temps means more thermal energy in air, and air can hold more water in vapor form. So, technically yes…it’s global warming.

Also, there’s a social component. There’s a reason the rugged terrain of the Alps, that dramatic scenery, has been sparsely populated in historical times. There’s a reason the big cities developed in the plains. Probably because it’s not the safest place to live.

It would be interesting to see how many of affected people live there because work and how many are tourists of retired people. Maybe buying that house in Ticino for retirement years is not that different to buy a seafront property in Florida.

More accurately, these days, and to try to target some such misapprehensions, it’s called Climate Change

To be even more accurate - one is a consequence of the other and both phrases are current.
