I have bought some curtains and sheers for my new apartment but they all need to be taken up. Is there anyone out there who does this in the Zug area? Or has a sewing machine they could lend me/or wanting to sell one????
So much for ready made curtains...I have yet to find one set that is ever the correct height. But honestly, it is not necessary to sew them with a machine, though it does go faster and unless you have a blindstitch machine, you will see the stitching. You can stitch them by hand, it is not impossible, just time consuming. The first thing to do is hang one panel, mark it, and then iron it the way you want it sewn. Just repeat the steps for all the other panels. You can also buy iron on tape and hem them using that. I used to make costumes for the kids and some fabrics were so difficult to sew that I resorted to iron on tape. But for drapes I have used a machine but I have been making them from scratch, for the most part, and since I needed a machine to sew the pleating tape, I used it for the hems.
There may be some way to adjust the height from the top of the curtains, depending on how they will be hung.
I am really too far away to help you, maybe there is someone who lives closer? There are inexpensive simple sewing machines to buy here new and if you can sew, you will save a bundle on small repairs down the road if you can do them yourself. For used machines you will find them on the German language websites. English instructions can almost always be downloaded, or ordered, at least in the case of Brother and Singer.
Hi there, I purchased some ready-made curtains from Ikea, they came with iron on hemming tape, it has worked fantastically & was really easy to apply. Perhaps you can find some at your local haberdashers (if they exist in Switzerland) or head up to Ikea? By the way, where did you get your curtains from?
