Shares without Ertrag in ICTax

I very much like doing my tax declaration in Switzerland, it is overall surprisingly easy, but I encountered a little challenge:

For some shares that I own, when I enter their ISIN number in the tax software, the field "Steuerwert" (tax value) gets automatically filled in, but not the one called "Bruttoertrag ohne VSt." (gross return minus VSt.).

What am I supposed to enter there? (Is it "simply" the cumulated return + dividends during 2021? But the value I compute is suspiciously different from the Bruttoerträge of the other similar shares...)

Many thanks 🙌

I think the return is the dividends only in this case and not the cumulated return (unless you need to pay capital gain tax) + other more obscure things (virtual dividends for cumulating funds, options for funds, etc.)

Did your instrument even produce any return? Maybe not having it is correct. What is the ISIN?

Overall, I would suggest also not to be shy and ask directly folks at [[email protected]](mailto😃[email protected])

I found them incredibly responsive and helpful (emailed in english asking to add some funds to ICTAX - and 3 hours later they were in the system)

Many thanks for the detailed reply, @rezak.

The ISIN are LU0274208692 and LU1781541179. Both are accumulating funds, which may be why ICTax may not (yet?) have their Erträge -- even if other accumulating funds do have an Ertrag.

I will certainly drop an email at [[email protected]](mailto😃[email protected]) : thanks again 👍

I'm not a tax expert, but I had similar funds at one time. They don't pay out dividends, but effectively cumulate capital. I just declared their value as wealth and obviously zero dividend. The tax guys seemed happy enough.

Note that just because it is a cumulating fund does not mean that you don't get to pay taxes on the dividends. You have to compute "virtual dividends" that then were re-invested and you pay income tax on them, or ICTAX does that for you.

Obviously I don't know your specific situation: maybe the fund included instruments that did not pay actual dividends, maybe the tax guys just let it slide. But that is the theory at least

Not an expert, but if you open https://www.ictax.admin.ch/extern/en...25395/20211231 it says "The taxable earnings could not yet be identified and will be determined later.", so I think it is exactly as you said - they are still computing this data. So you probably either have to compute it yourself now or wait to submit the tax return until they got it

Thanks again. I have already sent the email to ESTV: let’s see what the say 👍

You can submit the tax declaration as is without declaring any income there - they will correct it later when they process it and have the figures ready

Truth be told, this is what I have already done to avoid errors with the software -- even if I have not yet submit it 🙈

Good to know that there is a solution even in the worst-case scenario 👍

For everybody's knowledge, the ESTV people told me that the correct Ertrag will be published only at a later stage and to leave that field blank in the tax declaration, as it will be corrected by the tax authorities -- confirming @kerneltrick's statement.

Thanks everyone!
