Never had anything delivered from abroad to my address in Switzerland and I wonder whether I will need to pay for for customs clearance.
I would like to order directly from https://dbrand.com/shipping total cost approx. 50 USD, shipped preferably with DHL. The company states that they have no control over the import fees or duties charged when I receive my order.
On DHL website I could find that the upper value limit for an import exempt from VAT is 65 CHF. Is it that simple or do I need to fill some docs before the shipment is delivered? Are there any additional hidden costs that I will need to bear? Is 65 CHF applicable for any carrier or only DHL?
CHF65 is applicable to any shipment but it does include shipping costs! $50 Canadian is about CHF 38. So as long as the shipping isn’t more than CHF 27 you should be OK
I think the prices are listed in USD.
I'm not sure how much the shipping costs really are, for orders over 30 USD it is free. Do I need to take this into account even if the seller bears the shipping costs?
I am afraid that the seller might not correctly/at all complete the customs declaration, and based on this thread I will need to pay a lot more than it's worth...
Well $65 is about CHF65. If shipping is included you don’t have to account for that. If you can show an invoice or credit card payment that should be sufficient.
It won’t be accepted for shipping without a customs declaration.
In case the paperwork is not right and customs opens the package, while you can make your case with the customs about the true costs and the fact that you do not have to pay the VAT - in that case you will still have to compensate the customs for their time.
So sender's mistakes will likely cost you money
Or they could open the package, have a look, seal it up and send it on.
