Hi All, I am moving back to Canada and shipping all my things via Swiss Post since their rate is the most affordable.
Sadly, I've just learned that the maximum that Swiss Post will insure a single box for is 500 CHF. There's no way to add more insurance coverage through Swiss Post for an added fee.
I've just called Zurich Insurance to see if "postal insurance" is something they provide and they do not.
I have household content insurance through Helvetia, but they will not cover it.
Does any one know of an insurance provider that might do this service?
Thanks for your quick response, sadly that 5000 CHF liability only covers domestic shipment. In the fine print General Terms and Conditions is this table that states a maximum of 500 CHF for international shipments:
Swiss post will only cover the Switzerland bit of things and then it will be other postal services and as Swiss Post has no control over these, it's difficult for them to ensure.
Most other countries provide online brokers (Transglobal Express, for example for the U.K.) which give you a list of shippers and their prices which are often much, much lower than the official courier sites.
You also get to know which courier you will use.
Any brokers that operate in Switzerland have, in my experience, higher prices than the official sites. These prices are mind-blowing.
You’re looking for GIT – Goods in Transit insurance. These policies are normally annual and for businesses, don’t think you can get cover for a 1-off shipment as an individual but you could try Axa Transportation Insurance . As Tom said, I would look for another carrier via Shiply most offer upto 5k cover
