Shipping personal items to Singapore (incl. monitor, games consoles)

Hi all,

At the end of January I'm making the move from Zurich to Singapore. I've managed to find a buyer for my furniture and crockery, and so am only wanting to take along various personal items with me.

From what I can tell from previous threads (I don't have so many possessions), the most cost-effective option for me seems to be shipping these items via the Swiss Post's "PostPac International Economy" service.

Unfortunately, I'm wanting to ship across some electronics (in particular a monitor and a couple of games consoles), but according to https://www.post.ch/en/private/sendi...tional-economy it seems like they are not covered or accepted. I can't find any other options with Swiss Post for transporting them.

If anybody knows how I might be able to get a box or two of such electronics shipped over, I would very much appreciate your suggestions.

(Apologies if the answer exists in another thread -- I did look but couldn't find it.)

Cheers!

I read that they are not covered for liability (so at your risk). I did not see where they are not allowed. Did you see something specific?

They have a contact number you can call to ask your specific question. In case of doubt, call

Swiss Post Customer Service on 0848 88 88 88.

Thanks for the reply!

I was convinced I read a thread about a package comprising a mobile phone not being accepted -- but just looked it up again and I was mistaken (rather they were strongly advised against posting it): Posting iPhone to the UK . But it would be nice to find an option where there was some insurance / guarantee. Will phone them on Monday and ask.

Will also look into DHL Paket International (from Germany) but don't yet know if their insurance coverage is any different (and would prefer to post them from CH if I can anyway).

I've travelled the exact opposite of your trip.y advice, either buy some luggage allowance & dump the monitor, buy a new one in Singer's or dump everything & start from zero.

In short I wouldn't spend a bomb schlepping the stuff to Asia. I'd sell it off cheap & start new with new hardware.

The plugs in Singapore are like the UK. 220v.

Enjoy Singapore, great spot, just don't spend your time gaming.

Yeah, this is certainly my plan B. I get 30kg with Singapore Airlines and intend to use it (unfortunately buying any extra weight would seem to be excessively expensive). Anything I can't bring over reasonably one way or another, I will leave.

Indeed! Am from the UK originally, so this is quite convenient.

Thanks, I've long loved the region and am looking forward to working there. The gaming is just for the occasional moment the heat gets too much and I wanna hide away in an air conditioned room. ;-)
