Shipping stuff from UK

My wife has been unable to find a new sofa she likes in CH, and we are thinking of ordering one in UK and getting shipped here. Anyone have any idea how much that might cost?

Cheers

Consider looking in Germany, Italy, France first.

A single sofa shipped, even in a shared delivery - several hundred pounds.

Over the years we've bought quite a bit of furniture in the UK which we've always had shipped by Luker Bros of Oxford who do twice-weekly runs between the UK and Switzerland. Once one's taken the savings in VAT into consideration, I haven't found it that expensive and I don't mind paying a bit extra to have what I really want and not a comporomise solution!

Really? I could never find a sofa I liked in the UK... was spoilt for choice here (though limited by price). I take it you've exhausted the complete range of swiss furniture shops aside from Ikea.

I ordered my sofas from italy - they were cheaper there and they delivered them to the door. I can give you the company name and you can ask them if you have a style you like. I found here that you have to look through brochures rather than in the UK where you go to a large furniture store and seeing everything in room settings.

There is also a Laura Ashley in Zurich and you can order all their sofas from there and they will deliver them to you to save the hassle - they are about the same price as in the UK

Hi

I am currently looking at options from delivery from UK and have called several international shipping companies but at the moment all proving to be more expensive that the furniture itself. Can you please provide me more details with your recommendations in italy?

Unfortunately Laura Ashley closed down in switzerland sometime this year so it won't be easy getting their stuff here anymore.

Thanks

Judy

for a single sofa, it's impractical.

www.arredopiu.net is my source in Italy. Price without tax, handle delivery and costs are good.

We eventually used a company called Simon Jones and got a very good price. They often deliver to Zurich, Geneva and Milano. Also quality of service was excellent, and I can really recommend them

There's a Laura Ashley in Bern. It's not a big store, but upstairs I saw catalogues for furniture. Maybe its worth a bash.

I just got a shipping quote from Saxon Leather to have the equivalent of a three seater sofa and two armchairs shipped over from the UK and with insurance and packing included the shipping cost element came to 507 GBP. This is for kerbside delivery which means they will only unload it at your door but won't move it into your house. It's more like the way the post operates. There are some great bargains to be had in the UK with the low pound and the quality there can be excellent.

I recently got a delivery quote for GBP 600 for delivery and installation of a dining table & chairs and a dresser from Luker Brothers.

We too are going to take advantage of the Zimbabwean GBP and buy some great furniture at a good price in the UK. (Alan Cryer furniture to be precise).

Just to correct an earlier poster, Swiss furniture in my opinion (gained after many fruitless hikes around empty furniture stores persued by desperate managers / salespeople) is over-priced and shiite. Furniture for the home should not look like it might injure you, should contain as little brushed aluminium / zebra striped leather / bright red upholstery as possible, and should not fit in perfectly in your local A&E ward.
