I've not quite managed it.... does anyone know if there are any export/import duties on sending wine to the UK? Can I just send via the postal system?
We are about to leave switzerland and despite my best efforts to drink our wine
There are no allowances for taking alcohol from outside the EU into the UK for duty, even if you're moving residence, other than the usual duty-free limits and then it must travel with you. If you were for example to smuggle the wine over the border into Germany and then get it to the UK from there there I don't think the UK would have any issue, but the Germans might.
You'd need a customs form if posting from Switzerland but in any case will likely be prohibitively expensive.
Thanks for the information - looks like my best bet is to pay for extra luggage allowance and take it as accompanied articles back to the UK.
How many bottles and to where in England?
Only ~20 bottles (but they cost enough that I'd rather not sell them!) and taking them back to Surrey. I think it makes sense for me to just package them up and pay for an extra 20kg of baggage allowance with the airline as this way I don't have to pay any duties. Enough bubble-wrap and hopefully easyjet don't smash them!
