Shopping in Germany

Yesterday I was driving on the road from Zürich to Schaffhausen via Jestetten when I saw that Lidl had opened a DIY store in Lottstetten. I never knew Lidl operated DIY stores.

Also, there is a giant Edeka and a Rossmann under construction.

Presumably, all three are aimed at the Swiss market.

I just googled it and if you see the entrance signage in the photo, it definitely has the Swiss customer in mind:

They should have scrubbed the “Wilkommen”

Speaking of which… how’s the Stucki mall in Basel doing? Or aka the Stucki mausoleum, it was almost dead back in my day.

We were in Germany today and drove past an Aldi with an almost empty car park so spontaneously decided to go shopping.
I had not yet this month filled my Wise account (prepaid debit card with good exchenge rates and low charges) so I got out my mobile phone and ordered a UBS CHF transfer to my Wise account, a normal transfer not a chargeable immediate transfer.

By the time we got to the checkout my Wise account had been topped up.

I remember the old days in UK when bank transfers took three days.

I bought a rumpsteak there but it was full of gristle, sent a complaint to Aldi.

Our dogs were very grateful

you may find yourselves walking the dogs later tonight…and later tonight…and early in the morning…
