I have a question that l cant find the answer anywhere else.Long story short l am a retail store manager in Australia and have a swiss wife. She is living here with me for last 3 years.l love being in Oz but unfortunately it is not the same to my wife because of being loneliness. She is coming from the big family and most of family members are residing in Switzerland. Also hard to visit them when she needs.
We will be coming over end of next year and have no idea about swiss job market.l see its hard to get a job in there for an unskilled person. But still gotta do some research while l have a chance to do some short course to make my job hunting easier.l also have some experience trade, warehousing and hospitality. But l dont want to narrow my skills down to these fields only.lm capable of learn anything quicker and pretty handy with the tools
I hope my question finds the right people to answer who had a similar experience. All l am asking is what short courses in Australia you would advise to take it before coming that makes my job search a bit easier?
Thanks in advance guys.Looking forward your responses
Well since you don't have an specialist skills that would likely land you a job in an English speaking environment, the best think to do is concentrate on get a good command of the local language to start with.
There’s no way you’d meet the criteria with your skillset.
The best thing is for your wife to move back here first and providing she can find a job with a big enough salary to support you both then she can apply for family reunification for you. Once you get that you’ll bypass the above criteria and will find it a bit easier to get a job yourself.
Best thing to do is start learning the language of whichever part of Switzerland you plan to move to. You’d need that for your skillset.
She is Swiss, grew up here, and then moved to New Zealand. Later, she moved to Switzerland with her New Zealand husband. Then, she started the thread to learn about how he might find work. So there are a lot of similarties to your situation. They did move to Switzerland, and worked here for a few years, before deciding to return to New Zealand.
I think such a decision depends a lot on the phase of one's life. In their case, their adult children were all in NZ.
However, please be aware that since Kiwi2Swiss started her thread, the permit restrictions for non-EU citizens have become more restrictive, so Medea has given you good advice, for you (or your wife, especially if she still speaks a Swiss language) to read up about the rules, starting with the link posted by Medea above.
Do you know, yet, whether your wife hopes to move to the same canton as her family, and which language is spoken there?
Thank you all for responses.l forgot to mention that she is a native swiss german speaker and grew up there. We have started practicing german at home already.
As you guys said my wife and daugter will be the fist landing and l ll join them once they settled.
Not sure which canton we wil be moving. It all depends on where my wife finds a work. She will start applying with the companies she worked before
I would suggest you to move to CH only when you have a job lined up or are fluent in language.
It's good to know that you are flexible with type of industry but honestly it doesn't help much. Also do a reality check of how much you earn now and what are your expectations from CH.
Else you might end up switching place with your wife : x years on, unhappy and lonely
