Short Swiss sentence

Hello,

Would anyone be able to clarify a brief passage containing a few Swiss words?

Der Chroniker Johannes Stumpf berichtet über das Grimsel Hospiz:

"Ein schlechte herberg ists, aber da findt man gemeinlich gut weyn, den bringend die söumer übers gebirg auss Eschental und Walliss...".

I guess söumer could be pack animals of some sort, and Walliss is probably Valais, but how about weyn?

That is "old German" (a bit like Shakespeare English ;-) ) so not easy to understand.

weyn is probably Wein = wine

Söumer are Säumer. These are men who trecked with animals and goods over the mountain passes

The original "Ein schlechte herberg ists, aber da findt man gemeinlich gut weyn, den bringend die söumer übers gebirg auss Eschental und Walliss...".

would be something like this in todays German :

"Eine schlechte Herberge ist es, aber da findet man ordentlich guten Wein, den bringen die Säumer über das Gebirge aus Eschental und Wallis...".

I would translate “gemeinlich” with “meistens”
