Shower after 10pm?

Is the wife the happy sort?

Thank goodness for the swear filter...

guess it always depends on your neighbours..

had problems when I first started in, then neighbours moved out, no further problems ;-)

And basically if it reads in the "Hausordnung" then it really only means keep the noise level at a suitable level.

Is that a rule in the whole country?!

I took a very long drunken shower at 3am after Luzernerfest a couple weeks ago, I'm gonna get arrested?

If you play your music loud enough, it drowns out the noise of the shower.

Amateurs...

Oh just wait until u go to the geminde !

Its actually only a rule some EF members invented to make others think that CH has too many rules. Until I started reading EF I never realised such a rule exists and I shower when I feel like and always have. Now that I heard about it I ignore it totally and never had an issue

Horse or not, as long as he puts the seat down, innit..

Shower noise is nice and innocent. There is a certain type of noise coming from some neighbors I used to have I could really live without. Some stuff cannot be unheard.

pee in the shower then

You live in Canton ZH so ZH rules apply to you. You are allowed to shower after 10pm. See on the bottom of this site: http://www.mieterverband.ch/zh_mb_nachbarn.0.html

I have heard better jokes

YES. As long as you are using yours

I don't see how running water makes so much noise, not like you're gonna take a 20 min shower are you? What's next, they gonna ask you to stop "doing the dirty" because it makes too much noise? I say take your shower when ever you want.

Perfectly normal. I usually shower, foam and sing (yodel) between 23h00 and 02h00.

Not a single complaint, because more focus on church bells whine

We have no neighbours to the side of us and under our bathroom are no bedrooms. Our kitchen is above a bedroom, so tend to be quiet there late at night. Anything that might make noise in the kitchen waits until the next day.

Avoided to use the washing machine on Sunday, as thought from this forum, taboo, but it is not problem to our current neighbours.

My first year in Switzerland I lived in a flat where the contract stated nothing about not showering at certain times; there was just no hot water between 10pm and 7am which meant either late for work or smelly all day, both not acceptable to me or my colleagues. It took several complaints from my side until they changed it to 6.30am.

We never had any problem with that, and not with the toilet flushing either.

We even used the washing machine after 10 pm (I had to), however not too often.

This is a topic that often comes up. Having lived in a number of appartments around this glorious nation, I can say the following: Yes, you can shower after ten pm. You can even have an illegal rave after ten pm. And here's how you do this:

You just do it.

Swiss people are amazing in this regard. There are a metric ton of rules. Everything is regulated down to the most minute of details and it's - quite frankly - ridiculous occasionally. "Don't flush your toilet after ten"? Yeah, right... as if.

But the Swiss have realized this. They know that their general regulations are stupid, so everybody does it regardless, but they try to be subtle and sneaky about it. And they never talk about their illegal activities such as showering at night.

So here's what you do: You take a shower. You enjoy it. You're squeaky clean and smell nice. Success was had. But then, the next day, you meet Frau Müller from downstairs and she goes "I heard you take a shower last night at exactly 11.17pm."

A critical moment!

But worry not, there's a way out of this. It is crucial that you keep a straight face in this moment. It is - in fact - of the utmost importance, because this is serious business. You dared taking a shower. At night. On a weekday. Frau Müller didn't get her assured-by-some-obscure-law seven hours of sleep. She only had six hours and 47 minutes exactly. But you're prepared. "I'm sorry. Won't happen again", you say as sincerely as you can.

And then you take a shower again late at night. Repeat this procedure as often as needed. Frau Müller will complain, you will be clean, everyone will be happy.

There, I hope I've helped.

What rule ? You are not to take a full bath at night. But to take a shower is no problem
