Side by side fridge freezer - clearance around it

I was hoping you might be around!! Thank you for your comment

Yes we do have underfloor heating - and as it is under all the kitchen it will be underneath the area where the fridge is for sure. We usually have it switched off in the kitchen mind you ... but even when off it runs a frost protection programme so does heat to a certain level. Thanks for the samsung suggestion - I’ll take a look.

Edit: I forgot that I had already looked at Samsung and seen that they recommend 10 cm space on either side and 5cm at the top ... we have the top but not the side measurements ... strangely they have no specific recommendation for the back but it does come with a spacer which apparently allows for 2.5 cm

mmhhh we do have an oven next to it but first of all it is rarely used (about 3 to 4 times a month) and even when it is on, the partition wall inbetween it and the fridge is not even warm to touch. The oven vents directly to the front so also should not affect the behind of the fridge. I suspect general unreliability is closer to the truth.

If the fridge is huge, you might have enough space to modify it to install a built-in fridge and a freezer.

We have two ovens next to ours. No gap. Built-in.

The air flow from top-to bottom is crucial.

Heat rises. If the flow at the bottom is restricted, the components of the freezer/fridge will reach a high temperature very quickly.

I've got an IR temperature probe. It great for finding problems with cooling/heating circuits.

It is! I went to the kitchen place last week and got them to draw up plans for putting a new integrated fridge only in and a narrow larder cupboard to fill up the huge hole. Sadly even a big fridge is about 50 litres smaller than what we have .. and of course the water dispenser beloved by everyone except me in the family is not included - but my kitchen will look smart for sure .. this alteration is about 5 times more expensive than buying a replacement side by side!! Sigh.

(Believe it or not I actually do have really quite major issues in my life but it seems I like to focus on something minor to distract myself .. thanks for indulging me!)

It’s definitely warm under the fridge ... just to touch. Of course as pointed out by Big Mara this is mostly the underfloor heating .. its not massively hot behind it nor above it .. no idea why when it has venting options that heat lurks underneath.

This is exactly our set up - minus the Ferrari and with a little more height clearance (6cm) to the cupboard above. So yes - it should be adequate - it seems the kitchen fitters are not saying anything different to what Fust told you - so back to my original thought - a Friday afternoon fridge

is it big enough to install 2 appliances side by side?

i learned quickly it is better to have standard sized niches that allow you to easily replace appliances of a standard size. much cheaper than dealing with odd-sized appliances or having to do custom woodwork. plus if you replace, there's typically a cheap option to install and remove old appliance so it is really a hassle free option.

95cm is not enough for 2 appliances but I have a “réduit” nearby so a freezer part is nice but not vital. Your point about a standard size hole and being able to slot cheaper appliances in and out is exactly what I’m trying to decide .. pay more now to make it easier going forward .. but have a smaller fridge with no water (and ice cube when it was working) dispenser ..

Hi ECB. the Samsung needs 25MM on both sides and this is only because of the swing of the doors. If you have less, you must only pull the fridge out a bit, until the doors open to 130%. I have used the Samsung in a few kitchens and had no problems.

Never understood why people would build a nice kitchen and then go for such hideous side-by-side fridge-freezers.

At the same cost one can have two spearate appliances, all nicely integrated into the cabinatery.

I agree! Except - we didn’t (and still don’t) have the space for two fridges and one is just not quite big enough ... but I otherwise entirely agree.
