Siebenschläfer

Never really done dried ‚shrooms‘ so I may give that a try.

Yesterday I had Veggie with a Layer of potato, a Layer of Vegs, Layer potato, Layer veg Till the baking Form was Full and filled the Form with garum.
That worked very well.

Sounds like a vegetarian cottage pie sans cheese.

I powder dried 'shrooms because I don’t like them reconstituted whole or in pieces. The texture is just ‘off’ to me. So much so that I ruined a few dishes that way.

Powdered as a flavoring, though… heavenly.

Tip: Don’t powder them in your coffee bean grinder, use a separate grinder for your mushrooms. Unless, of course, you fancy mushroom flavored coffee.

Your veggie potato bake sounds delicious!

Forgot to mention that I grated in half a frozen Naga Joloka from a handful that I keep in the freezer, just for that extra kick.

I’m the same . But grinding them was the best thing I ever did.

Seriously - who would reconstitute beef jerky? Then why mushrooms?

That would be like reconstituating an Egyptian mummy.

For the Victorians mummies were a hot topic, they loved their mummies and not in the Freudian sense. They ate them, ground them to powder for medicine, painted with them, mummy brown it was called and they spent (I would assume) many a memorable evening at unwrapping parties.
Kind of unboxing extreme long before youtube.
And yes there are even rumored “gentlemen clubs” that got freaky with mummies.
No wonder the mummies cursed the buggers.
But in the end most of the Egyptian mummies were burned to heat the boilers of steamtrains and steamships.
How many millions of mummies went up on smoke is anybodies guess.

why in the oven? Without anything containing fat, the oven has no effect, basically you boilt the veggies/potaos in the oven?
That’s more expensive/electricity consuming than the stove

No idea whether that is true. But it crossed my mind that this was more effective than us getting cremated straight away with the heat just getting lost in the air.
Maybe in these times we should start mummifying again.

You then get a crust in the form that you would not get from just boiling. I’ll get som pictures next time

yes but to me - due to lack of cheese or something like it - it was just dried up/slightly burnt top.

I got wise AFTER I copied your idea :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Although the Landlady caught two of the buggers, it seems they are back and it sounds like a pub bowling ally up in the attic.
Just shouted up to nobody in particular that “you Siebenschläfer buggers are edible!”

they must know that, mate.
However, they might not be back but maybe they were productive before they were chased away.

Seriously, one thing is to catch and remove them, the other is to block all entrances.

Reminds me of the first time our construction boss opened the ceiling to the attic of This Old House…and pounds of marder poop fell out. They’d been allowed to live there for years.

Why does he title it “edable dormice” when he later clearly says they are protected in France too?
I don’t like that, we know how many people only read headlines and don’t bother about the actual information.

Cause that’s their name…it refers to their fattiness.

And one more time, this time I put them on a bed of sweet potatoes.
Trying to tempt marton to try out his own recipe:

That looks nice. Really nice.

Thanks, It was very yummy.
Still, I’m all ears//eyes for the next idea.

Heeeer´s Johnny…
The dormouse or dormice are back, have been for a few days and they are quite active. At around five in the afternoon they get the zoomies and race around the attic till about ten then they go off and do their dormice thing.
Havn´t told the landlady yet because she will try to trap them and I suspect that they have llittle dormice somwhere and if she traps the parents the littles will starve.
So I have decided to make peace with the critter and give it a name.
Because they make such a noise and like to run I´m thinking “Rumblestreakskin”
So Bretheren and Cistern. What should I call my dormouse?
