Sinus Lift

I'm scheduled in for one soon and am really not thrilled by the idea. Maxillary_sinus_floor_augmentation_procedure This will be followed by an implant as I broke a tooth eating muesli.

I would like to know about your personal experience (please only you): what it was like during the procedure and post-op.

Thanx!

My friend is having one today. As soon as i am able to get info i will tell you. It doesnt sound nice though

That bad?

You broke a tooth eating muesli?? What kind of muesli was it? I don't eat this anyway but now that you told me, I will say a strong NO everytime someone asks me to eat muesli. Or you had an implant already and now you don't have it anymore?

It was Familia brand "Knusper" (crunchy) and has nuts in it.

I broke a tooth in the back (down to the root) in an area where there had been work done. According to the dentist this is not an uncommon break nor cause (!). Once the graft has taken, then we'll proceed with the implant. This is estimated to be a 9 month process, not including the time of the extraction and waiting for that to heal.

Not everyone will break a tooth eating crunchy muesli; I just didn't know I was at risk.

so you broke a tooth while chewing nuts???

An implant in the upper jaw can result in something resembling a black eye - that should disappear in 2-3 days.

A few painkillers might also come in handy...

I have a cracked tooth upper jaw 7th- and my dentist said he would not do an implant if it had to be replaced as it is too near sinuses and could be nasty.

I had something like that in the lower jaw. Due to an unnoticed infection underneath a molar a large part of the jaw bone was eaten away. The nerve in the tooth was dead so I didn't notice but an x-ray (for looking at wisdom teeth) showed a large area where bone was missing.

The dentist pulled the molar, scraped out the infection from the resulting hole (in the jaw !), filled it with gunk to grow the bone back, installed a screw in the jaw and screwed an implant on it. Cost: 5000 chf

But as far as the procedures go: a walk in the park. I'm very afraid of the dentist but mine (dr. Mettler who comes highly recommended on this forum) uses paste to numb the gum before injecting the main painkiller. This reduces the procedure to some painless poking around, the worst is having to keep your mouth open for an hour (which hurt my jaw muscles). I actually kind of liked the whole process as it took about 10 dentist visits (and 10 free half-days of from work with opportunity to sleep late)

I am amazed they did it all in one go - the process of grafts for missing bone normally takes months before an implant can put in.

For sinuses of course, it is the upper jaw, back, which is the problem.

It was not in one go, it took indeed months for the bone to grow back. The whole think took about a year...

Thank you for the feedback; the cost estimate I had was the same as yours BasP72.

I'm working with the surgeon on giving me something for the pain- he proposed ibupro-not-fun and I told him off. He had forgotten about me and is now willing to work with me on that. I am prone to bruising and when I feel pain, it's way past a "10", which skews everything.

Please continue giving feedback!

I'm also very sensitive to pain but somehow, even after the painkiller injection from the procedures wore off, I was pain-free. Don't worry !

Oh boy. You guys talk about scary things .
