I'm currently scheduled to take my ITIL V.3 Foundation + Prince2 Foundation exams this month, a friend of mine suggested to take the Six Sigma Black Belt exam too as it's highly recognized and highly demanded by major employers.
Having followed some Kaizen trainings (Kaizen is just the initial step, and comes way before the Green belt and Black belt) I'd recommend you get the professional experience first.
It's a methodology.
The completion of a Green belt usually requires 50% of your professional time and a Black belt will requires 100% for a specific amount of time.

Do you suggest getting the "Six Sigma Handbook 3E", read it and then decide?
Of course that's always useful, but really the only way I know to learn the 6σ methodology is if your employer endorses it.
It's usually proposed by your employer and at the end of the training you take an exam to become a Green Belt.
I'm actually looking at it vice versa, which means i want to utilize an established methodology and framework within the company to build a more structured strategy, improve the business process, maintain B2B and deliver an enhanced service , so what i am trying to do is bring academic to practice, thats for my own agency not my employer though (Which will probably be my own practical project at the end)
I recently did Yellow Belt training at the company I just left. As I understand it to get certified you have to have do the training and also do a project. If you just do the training you can say you are Yellow, Green or Black belt trained, but not certified. But I'm not totally familiar with the requirements. It was an opportunity to add another item of interest to my CV. I'm also considering doing the PMP training via E-soft online training. If I do that one I will definitely do the corresponding exam for certification.
Black Belt certification requires 1 or more completed projects under your belt. Pun intended. Which means it goes beyond mere classroom training or tests.
How do I know this, you ask? I am a certified Six Sigma / Lean Sigma Black Belt.
That's what I thought as well.
And it seemed to me that each of these projects requires several months.
Anyway it's a great certification to have if you can get one or are selected by your employer to undertake the necessary training and projects and exams to get there.
If ever I had the opportunity I'd jump on it !
I decided to go for the Green Belt for a starter before taking the Black Belt, just to get sense of it and then decide if i go further.
As far as I know, the certificate exams are cumulative, so if i pass the 8 for the GB would i only need to do the 7 left or will have to do the 15 all over again?

Personally I find it a hilarious joke. BUT it's extremely usefull when looking for jobs, and leads to headhunters stalking you where ever you go.
It's been a while, but I remember it being extremely expensive, and not really worth it, unless your employer pays for it. In which case-go crazy!
I regret not taking the chance of doing it in my 2 previous companies.
