OK! Due to the exceptionally hot hot dry summer and lack of enough water, a farmer in Sulz AG can not sell his plums to the big guys, because they are too small. So now he is sitting on a potential loss of 3 tons. So he is trying to sell em in private. So if you happen to be driving by make a plum stop.

I just cannot find a translation for the perfect solution to this problem: “Zwätschgelutz”. Size does not matter there and it is simply delicious! At my grandfathers time it was limited to a few liter per cow for medical reasons free of tax, but the alcohol tax went down a lot since then. The cows did not see much of our Zwätschgeschnaps anyhow.

If you can get your hands on some of those small plums:
Plum powder.
Slice and dry plums until just crispy. Then powder the dried plums. Easy (and easily storable!) plum seasoning for baking.
Use in cake, muffin, or sweet bread recipes. Works well with many different main flavors, adds a delightful sweet-tart dimension to your fall baking.
Check out your local farm Hofladen - other farmers might be in a similar position to the gentleman in the article.

Round here they are coming out our ears. The Lovely Ursula’s tree must have 1,000 on the heavily laden branches of a 10-foot tree. Neighbour Helga brought her 2kg of fruit from HER tree, so we benefit from the domino effect. 
Edit: I just heard someone carefully and quietly place a parcel in front of the door. I’m scared to look out.
