could you recommend me a few ski resorts in a reasonable distance from Basel (<2hrs car/train) where I could improve my skiing, possibly having english speaking instructors?
Also - do you think is it good to go now (I see some of the resorts have already opened, even if partially) or would it be better to wait another month or so?
I consider myself a beginner at the moment (I skied 4-5 times in Central Italy before) - blue slopes only, and I am not confident to try reds yet.
I have tried to do a bit of research myself and found these places to be in a reasonable distance:
- Engelberg/Titlis : good for distance, but it looks like most of the slopes are red/black
- Felberg (DE) : good amount of blues, but low height hence no snow at the moment
I learned to ski at Engelberg - using the Klostermatte slope. Perfect for beginners and plenty of instructors. Starts on the travelator, then you can move to the other side for t-bar and button lift.
24 CHF a day, 22 CHF for half a day(!).
IIRC, if you feel ready to go up to the higher slopes at Brunni/Engelberg, you can upgrade your ticket.
Once you've got going (and there's snow), we found http://belchen-seilbahn.de/index.php to be quite pleasant and good value - especially if you've got kids as they go free with two adult tickets. Short slopes, but enough challenge to keep a beginner occupied for a while. €25 a day. Easy to get to and short distance from the car park to the bottom of the lift. (No instructors on site).
1. If I want to book an instructor, should I do it in advance - say, the day before - or can I just show up there and book one directly there.
2. Do they usually have lockers where I can leave some of my personal items - eg: I have my own equipment and I'll probably go via train so I'll have to leave my shoes "somewhere".
