Ski chalet purchase nr Zurich

Looking for suggestions under two hours commute. We will look at Andermatt and Lenzerheide. Keen on less populous resorts with space and good skiing. We are on silver coast. Other ideas?

Thanks

Andermatt has some serious skiing, it really depends what you want. The best overall resorts would be St Anton Austria 2.5 hours or Verbier 3 hours. It greatly depends on your budget-

Prefer smaller resorts, have skiied St Anton for example prefer Lech. Ideally Swiss resort and under 90 mins drive.

I really wouldn't recommend either of these as a chalet location. Both, in their own way, can be quite unpleasant towns of an evening. St. Anton suffers from the Krezy Kangaroo apres-ski brigade skiing home off their heads later in the evening, and Verbier, IME, is far too full of pseudo-riche brits braying about what brilliant skiers (and bankers) they are. Avoid.

Instead, Look for smaller resorts. We chose Engelberg for its skiing, of course, and our apartment is not a chalet (although with 4.5m pitched ceiling it feels like it), but in your position I might be tempted to look at the Heidiland Area. I rate Flumserberg quite highly for its skiing, and it's perhaps overshadowed sometimes by bigger resorts. More importantly, perhaps, it's a quiet and pretty area. No idea of pricing, compared with the other ones you mention (which I'd also look at), but I suspect it would be a lot less than the more major resorts here mentioned.

Toggenburg (Wilhuse, Unterwasser. etc.) , abit low key compared to the rest but that area is quite and still has lots of options all year round. You've got basically 3 ski area's in one, when snow conditions are good it can feel as big as any of the major resorts.

Edit: for sure property their is much cheaper also

Hi

I have done quite some research on this subject.

If you want quiet you can try Elm (Glarus) direction along with Malix and Churwalden towards Lenzerheide. Flims and Laax start to become a little long distance and large but if you investigate down that seam of the mountains there are some deals to be had.

Middle category Lenzerheide, Engelberg/ Titlis, Grunewald, Andermatt (although prices have gone way too high there relative to lift system as it stands at present)...can even try Hoch Y Brig area if you really just want the skiing and Flumserberg (lots of houses with great lake views and right side of ZH) then of course Gstaad area (is two hours through the Utli tunnel) and very charming but all depends on budget. Klosters for quiet.

Best you make a circle around Zurich 2 hour drive territory on a large scale map and get to work from that point using internet research and visits.

Verbier and Zermatt- Saas Fee are either too busy, large and too far.

If you want to pick my knowlege further pm me.

Andermatt may be a good compromise now: they have been developing some interesting projects lately and they are planning on improving the town's infrastructure, including skiing-lifts.
