Ski resorts near Zug

After 16 years without boarding I went last weekend to Graubünden where I rented a snowboard and I had a really good time. Guess snowboarding is like biking, you never forget it.

I live in Zug and I would like to know where are some close Ski resorts which wouldn't take me 3 hours to get there like going to Graubünden.

Any ideas? I've searched online and found Sattel Hochstückli http://www.sattel-hochstuckli.ch/ has anybody any experience about that place?

Stoos: the best resort in Kt. Schwyz

Hoch Ybrig: The Zürcher's resort in Kt. Schwyz

Neusell: The easiest to drive to and park at in Kanton Schwyz

Handgrüobi: Nice views but the road to get there is tricky.

The Rigi: tremendous views and OK when there's enough snow.

Brunni: Guaranteed enough snow cause it's on the shady side of the mountain.

Sattel Hockstückli: It's nicer to ski than Neusell but rather a pain to get there.

this might help?

But I was rather asking for recommendations

Being that people don't know:

1) How good you were?

2) How good you are?

3) Your preferred type of boarding: park, piste, back-country

4) Whether you want to take car or train?

5) Budget?

6) Is apres ski important?

7) Is on piste food/drink important?

8) Do you go alone or with someone?

It is very difficult to give a definitive recommendation - therefore a list of resorts/areas is a good start

It's only 54 mins by public transport from Zug Bahnhof.

To the OP:

When there's enough snow there (like now) are a nice couple of runs down to the bottom for which you can take the Gondola back up otherwise it's drag lifts.

I go snowboarding there but I don't mind drag lifts (they're character building! )

1) 4/5

2) 3/5

3) Piste, All-montain

4) Public Trans. is a preference

5) Not important, I simply don't want to lose too much time traveling

6) No

7) No

8) Alone, does it matter?

Thanks for the info. What's the last SBB/Bus station to get there from Zug? "Sattel SHAG" ?

Yes I think so. It appears to be the same Stop as Sattel, Gondelbahn and Sattel, Talstation which are definitely correct.

Based on??

If you are happy with challenging pistes then Stoos is an excellent choice for a cheaper day out (go to theirs and SBB website for transport)

Engelberg is also excellent - more expensive - but well worth it. (90mins)

Alternatively look for cheap accommodation deals further afield - for example stay 2 nights in Chur and do Lenzerheide one day and Flims the next (both via post bus).

You may find Sattel rather limiting then.

Lets just say I grow up in the "Bündner" montains. Ski/SB was my almost daily routine during winter.

I'm just looking for some pleasuring smooth carving rides. Nothing extreme.

Stoos or Engelberg will be good then! Both have very good red runs - with a few nice blacks thrown in.

Sattel is fine for a short day and fine if you haven't been before. A couple of nice runs down to the gondola but other than that it is really just 2 t bar lifts on the main area. Think its a bit annoying to get to On public transport. We always drive. Hoch y brig is my favourite area as it has 4 chairlifts and reasonably long runs. You feel like you ski at a proper ski resort rather than anything super local. There is also a run down to the cable car. Again though from zug I think public transport might be annoying and we always drive. Engelberg is really quite easy by public transport as is hasliberg and melchsee frutt and they are larger areas. We have been to all so if you want more specific info let me know.

Near Brunni there is also Holzegg. Part of Mythen region. Really nice for a day. Dont know about public transport from Zug but there is a Postauto from Einsiedeln.

Engelberg!!

I've never been there but all my friends/colleagues here in Zug say that it's amazing!

This is a bit of an old post but I am also looking for recommendations, albeit with very different criteria from the OP!

I am looking to end up being able to go skiing with my 6 year old son who has been once before and did a children's class last year. So he has the very basic skills. I have nothing. Never been....

Ideally we could go to the same resort (obviously), stay over for a few nights and go skiing together. Either separate lessons and then I meet him after to "play" or practice together. Or we both do the same class...although I will feel pretty stupid in a kids class :-)

If it is a resort that is close to Zug we could either commute each day, or I am willing to stump up for a few nights accommodation...Dad and son trip away kind of thing.

Also, ideally we could hire skiis and helmets otherwise it's going to be a very expensive trip given we may not like it together .... I am happy to buy boots, clothes etc.

Suggestions welcome....but please note, must be accessible via public transport...

Thanks

1) How good you were?

2) How good you are?

- Never been before....I am looking to learn...

3) Your preferred type of boarding: park, piste, back-country

- anything I can do over a few days.

4) Whether you want to take car or train?

- Train or bus only (don't drive) from Zug

5) Budget?

- depends...

6) Is apres ski important?

- Nope

7) Is on piste food/drink important?

- Nice but not essential

8) Do you go alone or with someone?

flumserberg is probably the best place to learn, it has a lot of nursery slopes and a couple of decent schools, DO NOT even think of hiring anything at the resorts, get it all well before hand, for the cost of a days hire there you can get a seasons hire elsewhere. lots of hotels and guest houses at flumserberg too, so you can usually find pretty cheap accommodation

Hi,

You can go to Brunni, which is close to Zug. It is small though, but you can ski there easily especiall in the weekdays.

Thanks, looks very kid friendly and I like that they do 2 hours lessons for kids. Only downsides seem to be I can't see any lessons for adults, except private ones; and it looks to be 1 1/2 - 2 hours by public transport.
