I'm having some visitors for 2 weeks and I would like to take them to ski in Zermatt for one day (and stay 1 or 2 more days in the town). They are late in the 60's (in case the lack of oxygen in the top makes any difference at that age)
Although they have skied in the past, they have not skied in 15 years, so whichever slope we go, it has to be blue from the very beginning (no short tiny red connection to the blue, just pure blue from the get-go)
I can assume that the slopes in the glacier won't be comparable to any slope in winter. So, I don't expect to have an amazing skiing experience, but rather, to experience skiing in August and spend a couple of hours, on the slopes.
My questions are:
- If anyone has skied in summer in Zermatt, is there any slope extremely easy? Kind of for pure beginners?
- What to do in Zermatt for 2, 3 days with a kid (4 years old)?
You can take train up to the Gronergrot and the ski lifts up to the ice caves above the Schwarzsee. There's other lifts that bring you close to trails, and there's a children's park near one of the suspension bridges. There's also a ropes course in town the child could try to walk on.
So, there's stuff to do, but you might find it impossible for the little one to climb uphill very long and even down hill. So bring someone with strong shoulders.
We went with very active fit 80 year olds up Gornergrat. At the top, they were moving around at their usual pace and nearly passed out. May be late 60s will not be a problem, but please just start with slower movement, if they are not used to high mountains. We had to take the immediate train back. They were fine when we reached back to Zermatt.
