SKY HD Problem - TV Blown

Just installed SKY HD with a THompson box and it appears that there is a voltage problem with the HDMI output, being too high. I had HD for a few hours and it has just blown my TV. Luckily the TV is still under warranty, but looking on the web, it appears to be a known problem. What I cannot find at the moment is a solution.

Any one had any experience on this one.

Nope, but found a thread here:

I've seen some people use a HDMI switch (ie 2 or more inputs to 1 output) as a "not-a-switch", but more of a protector. That is, if the voltage is again too high only the HDMI switch will blow and not the expensive TV..

Not ideal, but better than nothing.

That's a good idea as long as the HDMI switch does not produce too high a voltage

Is it a spanky new Sky HD box? If from 2006 it is clear it could be the known voltage issue which should be fixed in mid 2006+ boxes but if new then it looks like it's come back.

No its an old HD box, I will get the TV off to be fixed today. Lucklily it switches itself off 5 seconds after you switch it on. I am convinced that the HD box has blown it. With the HDMI switch, is there a buffer or is it a straight through connection?

Once the TV gets repaired I rather not conect it directly again until it is sorted out, outherwise the TV might go pop again. If it is a power supply issue I see that there are kits available from satcure.co.uk which I can fit myself. Happy days.

I am guessing this is a second hand early 2006 HD box.

None of the threads I could find are recent, so looks like it is an early problem (ca. 2006)

Szhjcn,

I am just trying to see whether changing the power supply would sort the problem out! telandy

I am not sure if that would solve the problem as it might have been a faulty chip set.

If it can be fixed by changing the PSU, I might be able to help you there. Just bought a new PSU for my Thomson box, but after installation last night the box is still dead. Have to do some more checks, but maybe I will have a new PSU available, if I can't fix the box. It's an 'upgraded' version with a 3-year gaurantee.
