SKYPE can you recommend a good webcam ?

Hi,

Finally I have braved it and installed SKYPE talk online video, oh its fun , now I know what I have been missing ! Its so good to link back home to the UK with my family.

But my motion eye on my laptop is really crap, the images from others isnt good, blurred and dark, now.... is that my settings ? or their camera?

Any advice really appreciated.

Also I want to buy 2 webcams , one for me and one for my dad back home , my budget is about 200 chf,

Any tips advice so much appreciated

I am not very up to date with computer stuff

thanks heaps and Merry Christmas to you all

I have Logitech QuickCam Pro for Notebooks, which I am more than happy with for the past one year using it with skype. It has got excellent picture quality and integrated mic attached.

Head over to www.digitec.ch and search for "Logitech QuickCam Pro", the one which is 69CHF is the one you want. Well under budget (assuming 200CHF for two together) and awesome in my opinion for skype.

Nice chatting with your dad...

And merry christmas!

Excellent thanks !

Can I ask re the picture that I see , is it their camera thats no good, mine or my settings ?

As you rightly guessed the answer could be one of those three, or perhaps even a combination of them.

When you start any skype video chat, you would see the other person in a bigger window and yourself in a comparatively smaller window below that (sometimes even inside, but we will come to that later).

If you see your own picture bad, then it is definitely either your camera or your setting which are to be blamed, and if its the other persons picture, then it is his/her camera or settings.

You could search on the internet for your notebook model, and which camera it has attached to it. If it is a lower resolution camera (VGA sensor or <1.3mp) then it could be crappy pictures due to camera. Although, one could make it better, but never crystal clear sharp pictures.

Sorry, I am going on and on .. its just that I could have received a phD sorting webcam troubles over phone and skype ... having done that for years both for my mom and now my in-laws...

If this does not help ... write back ..

Enjoy your chats..

Go to skype and look at their recommendation....

I have a logitech quickcam e3500 and the quality is excellent. It cost about £15, so that would be £30 for you. I was sent it from the uk, so don't know where it was bought, sorry.

I agree, Skype is fun - and much more. We could even discuss your questions via Skype if you would let us know your Skype name by putting it in "My Settings/Edit profile" right here in the forum. After this, a Skype icon will appear in your contributions, interested people than can contact you directly.

The bad quality of the pictures of your counterparts is most probably a problem of hardware/software settings. Not more about this now - insert your Skype name as suggested above and we'll get in touch with you soon.

thanks so much this is really helpful, re SKYPE chat, errrr would have to put my make up on first lol

Well, your make up must have been put on in the meantime - but I still haven't seen the Skype icon coming up in your contribution(s). Need another hand...?

I bought a very nice Philips (low light ready) webcam for less than 30euros.

Fully Skype compatible, autofocus, ....
