Does anybody know if there are any slimming world clubs(red and green diet) in switzerland, specifically in zurich. Doing the diet but would love the support of a group for advice and tips etc.. like they have in the U.K.
I don't believe Slimming World is here in Switzerland. I was a Consultant and Manager for them for 17 years, so if you would like to know any thing please fire away. The group support is the difference between Slimming World and WW.
They do provide an 'on-line' service which you can access and their website is full of information, inspiration and recipes. Their facebook page is a good source too.
Good luck on your weight loss journey
ALL weight loss systems work if you follow it. And ALL weight loss clubs work and every company has good and 'bad' consultants, advisors or whatever you want to call them.
At Slimming World we have what we call Image Therapy and I will copy what it says about that on here, it comes from their website.
"You'd be forgiven for thinking ‘Image Therapy’ is a type of makeover. In a way it is! It actually stands for ‘Individual Motivation And Group Experience’ and is at the very heart of a Slimming World group.
Image Therapy has been specially developed to empower, encourage and enlighten you each week as you share ideas, recipes, inspirational stories and laughter. It’s the most effective support there is – and you’ll only find it at Slimming World.
Each week you’ll be helped and encouraged by your Consultant and the other members of your Slimming World family
Your fellow group members will share information, tips and advice so you can build up your knowledge of Food Optimising week by week – and your motivation stays sky-high
You’ll share recipes and ideas for eating out and menu planning
We’ll help you recognise where you could be sabotaging your slimming and help you discover how to overcome those difficult times and develop healthy new habits that will stay with you for good
We’ll celebrate your success, week by week, pound by pound, until you achieve results you’ve only dreamed of – and together we’ll have lots of fun doing it!
Attending your group every week and staying for Image Therapy is the real key to permanent success!"
The 'Image Therapy' has been at the heart of every group since 1969.
I started working with Slimming World in 1994 and the difference between the two companies was, in my opinion, big. Over the years, Weight Watchers has changed significantly and is more like Slimming World these days. But as I said earlier which ever one you follow, if you follow it to the letter you will lose weight.
The idea seems good, and I am sure results are better than do-it-yourself home diet version 764532. But if the groups help so much, what if, theoretically, one day a person stops coming for whatever reason? What if person gets disconnected from community?
Every, I mean EVERY single diet can succeed only if is accompanied by change of attitude, mindset and life itself. And that can come only from within, other can just help at best. If it's temporary "do it just to lose these X kg" then it will always fail in long run.
You wanna lose weight, feel great, for free, and permanently? Here is the recipe:
1) less fat, less sugar (not saying NO, just think before you eat)
2) less food generally, our body really needs way less than people ususally eat. And in more courses (5 is ideal)
3) MOVE. Anytime, more, even more, till you can't catch breath, exercise, walk, run, cycle, swim, whatever. Just MOVE. No excuses. And be proud of yourself.
See? For free, guaranteed, prolongs life, makes happy and beautiful people. Nothing else needed.
Sorry for the attitude, but really, nobody needs more than this. Scientifically proven. And even makes sense this time.
group dynamics can help to lose weight. for me it was getting weighed in every week and paying for it! maybe it is a competition thing, who knows. If only I could get over that part of it and get back to losing weight on my own...
One of the reasons why it's so successful is that apparently, people like the adoration from fellow members at the group weigh-in when they have lost weight but hate to admit that they have gained it.
Peer-group pressure!
The following isn't a PR blur, it's my personal opinion having run Slimming World groups for over 17 years. Slimming/losing weight is a very emotive subject. The science behind it is proven and no-one denies that: less calories + more activity results in weight loss.
If it was that 'simple' for people there would be no need for any Slimming groups, but there are so many factors involved. It does start in the mind and as a Consultant it was very important that the client was 'ready' to start to change that mindset, make changes in lifestyle, ways of cooking and buying more fresh foods and increasing activity.
The group was there to support in good times and not so good times. It was never there to humiliate anyone. If someone had a gain the group provided a safe environment in which to explore what had happened that week, and to help put strategies in place for the following week to help the person. Support was there in between groups too. When a member reached their target weight the support continued so it became a way of life.
For some of my clients it also became a 'social' event as being overweight can isolate some people, but coming into a warm, friendly place where everyone was in the same boat, helped alot of people. Great friendships were made in the group. This camaraderie helped many many people not just at group but in the days in between group too.
As a Consultant I was 'trained' in the psychology of a slimmer and Slimming World devised a way to help people that went far beyond just what foods to eat and exercise to do.
I feel very honoured to have helped people change their lives as a result of losing weight and if the OP would like any advise or help please feel free to contact me.
