Small SUV Yeti size

Hi, we are looking to replace our 9 year old Skoda Yeti with something of an equivalent size. Current Skoda offers are all to big.

A Hybrid is an option, but not critical. But a trailer hich to support an ebike carrier is.

New or within last two years.

Any ideas?

Suzuki Vitara

Thanks, I’ll check it out.

I have a Land Rover → and in Zurich it is pretty difficult to find a mechanic / garage that work on these kind of cars (there is Emil Frey … but they charge way to much) … I would recommend getting something from the the classic German manufacturers (VW/Audi/BMW) the smaller versions—> I think an X1 or X3 from BMW might be a good option

Volvo EX30?

Thanks, the EX30 looks great but it is little more than we want spend.

No budget was mentioned in the original posting

I would seriously question the decision to buy a new ICE car in 2024. They will get expensive to run down the line (make no mistake, EVs will also get more expensive, due to the government wanting its pound of flesh from EV-owners, too - but ICE car owners will be squeezed like the proverbial lemons).

No criticism intended. I looked and found quite a few in the 60-80k range. But not much lower than that. That’s a lot of money for us.

We have an electric, a Škoda Citigo, which we absolutely love. What it doesn’t have is range and capacity for larger loads. Our Škoda Yeti gives us the range, and capacity for the déchèterie but it’s getting a little past it’s prime.

Our budget is capped at 35k.

Of course, as a card-carrying Tesla fanboi, I have to recommend the Model Y for this use-case.

Not the first one, a salvage-title US model rebuilt in Eastern Europe.

But the 2nd one, you can try haggling down

A brilliant car for the money is the Volvo XC40. I owned one for 2 years when they first came out and loved it for the style, comfort, space and economy.

You can easily pick up a low miles 4 year old one for around 25k which is a steal considering the new price. Here is a nice example, or if you can use your whole budget then go for a top of the range T5 with AWD and extra poke.

I bought a Duster in 2017 - now have 300k on the clock, and still going strong. Only issues I’ve had are:

  • marder chewing cables
  • air conditioner needing re-gassing this year

I do oil changes myself (every 20k km or so), and a service in Germany or Italy once a year.

The car gets abused - it’s been offroad in the alps, through the sahara, and on an autobahn as fast as she’ll go.

When she eventually dies, I’m confident it’ll be another duster replacing her. Only downside is the new ones are 50% more expensive than they were in 2017…

+1 on the XC40.

So apart from budget, the constraint is size? As in length? Might be worth clarifying. The XC40 is 20cm longer than a Yeti. The Karoq as the Yeti’s “official” successor as well. There is another Skoda SUV that is around the same length as the Yeti (4.22m) but is considerably less high / roomy.

There are so many of these small SUVs around now, there must be plenty of options. So best to be specific about what you actually want /need.
