Snatching humour from despair

Last week OH’s Mummy, aka The White Tornado, was recovering beautifully from a broken femur, zipping around the hospital hallways on her new rollator. For decades, she kept the home fires burning to help us live our complicated life of working all over the world. She’s been an incredibly energetic, loving, and funny companion. Friday morning they found her on the floor, dead of a massive stroke. Grief-stricken OH brought home her belongings, and I volunteered to go through them to spare him. Apparently she didn’t trust the hospital staff…I found 200€ stashed in her pee pads.

I’m sorry to hear of your loss - your MIL sounds like she was a force of nature and squeezed every drop out of life even when confined to the rollator.

Wishing you and hubby all the strength in the coming weeks.

I’m so very sorry, Bossybaby.

She sounds like a wonderful lady who lived life to it’s fullest.

I’m glad you were able to find a moment of humour amidst the sorrow - hang on to the little things that help you get through the difficult times.

My heartfelt condolences.

Sorry to hear that, but what a wonderful way to describe her.

Condolences, it must have been a terrible shock for her to be doing well one day then dying the next. The part about his father made me think of my own dad who died in 2005. He had vascular dementia and refused all food and drink in the last 2 weeks of his life, I understand how difficult this must be for you

Buy something expensive that you can enjoy together, share positive memories and make plans for when your nightmare is over.

This woman was a force to be reckoned with. Sweet, wise, strong, forceful, and ambitious. She became an accountant with Pfizer with a high school education.

Thanks, you guys. Y’all know? I want to think it’s just life working itself out. He had stage 4 cancer and 3 heart attacks in the last month. She was facing dementia and a lonely life without her partner of 60 years. Isn’t it better this way? I don’t know…all I know is OH is left totally alone except for me.

I’m sorry…can you explain what MP has to do with this?

Hopefully they are together in a better place.
