Snowblades or ski boards?

I am looking for some advice from the experienced skiers amongst you who might have tried snowblades or ski boards.

Watching my kids ski this week, I have realised I need to start skiing again myself. The girls are young enough to be doing quite well with their skiing (she says through gritted teeth), but they still need someone to ski with them. My eldest just did her first blue run, and is keen to go on lifts and do 'proper' skiing again soon, so we are eventually going to need an alternative to private instructors.

I used to ski downhill at a fairly basic level, but since then I have had my knee replaced (motorbike injury, not skiing!). I am reluctant to risk ruining my new knee, and have no real interest in taking up skiing again for myself.

I just want to be able to take a lift up the mountain with the kids, and ski down some really easy blue runs with them. I don't want to go fast, be technically brilliant, look cool, or do anything fancy. I figure in a couple of years the kids will be much better than me, and old enough to ski on their own.

A friend suggested I try ski boards, because they are short, I won't need stocks, there is less chance of them getting tangled up when I am getting on and off lifts, and they will be the easiest way for me to get down the mountain with the kids.

Thoughts, suggestions, advice, welcome

Makes a lot of sense but consider finding something with releasable bindings. With the fixed bindings you can still put a lot of force on your knees if you take a tumble even with only 1m skis.
