Sofa Advice sought: Natuzzi bargain hunt or good alternatives?

We have officially embarked on a Couch Hunt . this , this or this ... depending on how exciting or boring this is to you>

Our comfy couches are 15+ years old and overdue for replacement (and to significantly upgrade from what we could afford as newly weds). The fabric is too worn. I like to buy good quality, and make it last.

Looking for: A 2 seater & a 3 seater like this or this . Comfort & sense of luxuriating while movie watching is important. Prepared to put good money in, assuming 15 year life, prefer leather, we want good quality, but don't want to throw too many hard-earned Mountain Dollars at it, if that can be helped.

Unfortunately, we walked into a Natuzzi showroom here in Zurich & fell for one... "sticker shock" comes into play. To be expected, really.

So, to my questions on how to save on this considerable purchase:

1. Import or outlets? Has anyone here succeeded in getting a German French or Italian Natuzzi authorised reseller to deliver to Switzerland, and is the price differential worth the hassle? I'd be hoping for 30% cheaper - I may be dreaming... & is there an outlet store in CH?

2. Alternatives . Any brands you'd compare favourably with Natuzzi ? I have looked at the forum posts on Germany shops, but the quality/design generally appears average. Happy to be corrected...

3. Delivery . Any recent experience of 'actual delivery dates' as opposed to what they promise in the shop? This question applies to Natuzzi and others ( I have read the rant from some back already).

4. Re-upholstering an option for existing 2.5 and 3.5 seaters. Sorta. I assume it would cost a bomb & be a hassle to find/do. Anyone done this here?

5. Other advice?

Go to XXLutz in Friedrichshafen. We bought our Natuzzi furniture there and saved approx 50% vs Zurich prices. This was in 2010 when the Euro was 1.3-1.4!

They are totally set up for cross border selling. You pay them half of the price excluding tax just after ordering and the second half on delivery. You receive a separate bill from customs for the VAT.

Seconded, although I'd give them one more 'X', they're that good...

XXXLutz

Cant tell you about Natuzzi, but I am getting some Cassina stuff delivered from Germany and the price is about 30% below the Swiss offers I got. Since the brands are in the same price range do I guess that's a rough indication...

Do you fancy these?

We're downsizing....:-))

You mean the new sofas... that you advertised here a year and a half ago? Have you kept them in shrink wrap?

We are in similar situation, ideally replace current worn out Natuzzi (bought in an Outlet sale in CH) with another Natuzzi.

(Side advice for others, I checked on re-upholstering with leather from few Polsters in German part, the average price is ca. 3500 per couch, ouch )

XXXLutz is noted, will check them out. Any other suggestions? Thanks.

Try Wohnform in Konstanz - just took delivery of some new stuff. Amazing service from the sales team to the installation guys. Germany efficiency at its best and saved a bundle compared to CH. They also sort out all the taxes etc
