So the car has been parked in the blue zone and I've seen that some **** has keyed several panels.
I need to report this to the police I presume, but I am wondering what the next steps will be?
The car is a 201x Porsche so around 40k worth. Will they just replace or paint the panels?
Separately it seems like someone has reversed into my car. The number plate is cracked and the car sensors are a bit wonky. Also there is now this clunking sound when turning the steering wheel.
Would this be a separate claim or how does it work?
Really really frustrated here.
P.s the car already had its roof slashed by someone else a month ago and the claim for this is pending with the insurance and Porsche to replace. I've never been in a country with so much vandalism. (damage was done in another city).
Sounds like someone is targetting you... are you parking somewhere that may upset a neighbor?
Step 1: Police
Step 2: Get a quote from a private garage
Step 3: Insurance company
You may find that given the extensive damage, and cost of mechanics and panel beaters in CH, that they will write the car off...
A respray of a plain white Dacia door cost my insurance company near 3k (Dacia Zurich). I can't immagine what a whole car + new roof + whatever mechanical issues the clunking are would be...
You need to look for Parkschäden in your policy and see if you are covered and, if yes, what the maximum amount is. Parking claims generally won't count against your no-claims bonus.
Some insurers will arrange repairs through partner body shops and set everything up for you. Generali do and will let you have a replacement car for free while your car is in the shop. They will also pick up your car and deliver it when it's fixed.
Someone keyed my car once. I was insured for vandalism. My insurer, The Zurich, told me that this came under collision damage, not vandalism. The former had 1000chf deductible, the latter didnt. I changed insurers.
Parking damage also but check your contract max coverage, as sometimes it's not high enough.
Clunks in suspension, unless someone crashed directly into your wheel would be normal wear and tear or other mechanical damage, insurance would have nothing to do with it.
I would be surprised to have this happen in Zurich under normal circumstances. I've seen and parked expensive metal in all sorts of places, and never had to even think about what might happen.
If this is an ongoing thing, you should start looking for a locked garage, it's well worth the money just for the weather protection alone.
Allianz told me that this is not covered as its parking damage. Apparently keying a car doesn't count as vandalism. I would have to pay a huge excess and then pay more for my insurance? This has to be a joke right????
Well, these are insurances in general, thinking that en Suisse they would act more friendly/morally is a bit naive. Or in other way - they are happy to collect your money but will do everything possible to avoid paying you in case of event.
Very few people check all insurance contract details, us neither (but we have the cheapest insurance possible just to drive). What is in contract is valid.
I had my old BMW keyed once, the f***er responsible really went around from all angles and sometimes twice. Didn't get why, it was an older one, nothing spectacular (330 diesel), everywhere around there were more expensive cars. But it was parked for 2 weeks in blue spot in front of kebab while I was off in Philippines, maybe they got fed up. Or one of the more crazy ex had some momentary eruption of emotions.
Move along, get very good insurance which covers all this, get the car repaired outside of suisse (that full keying repair into 100% in a not so common metallic color costed me some 300 euro). 2 accidents like that sound more like you/your car is targeted by some envious idiot.
I was curious, so had a quick look at the Allianz policy:
Parking damage: When damage has occurred to your car, when it is parked, by an unknown person
Collision damage: When you cause damage while parking your car
I can only assume that in the case where collision damage has been applied that the insurance companies have determined (rightly or wrongly) that the owners have damaged the cars themselves while parking
Clumsy, it would be interesting to see pictures of the scratches, out of interest sake
Well, report the parking damage as quick as possible.
Albeit, it seems you need to read your insurance policy and understand it before any other action. Lookf for those works NickGB mentioned: collision and parking damage, what is covered and what is not.
