Someones' car is parked at my place - whom to report, pl?

Hi There,

Someone has parked is car at the place that I have rented. I left a note on the windshield (car has LU registration) stating that the parking place is rented by me and asking him to remove.

No response from the owner and hence the question. Whom should I contact? Police?

I speak very little german ..

Thanks in advance

How long has it been parked there?

since this morning.

Post the car plate number here and I'll tell you the name of the owner.

No?

Ok, just wanted to help as you said you don't speak German well...

so here is what I'd do:

Step one: look up the registration number. In LU it's for free: http://www.linker.ch/eigenlink/autonummern_index.htm

Unless somebody actively opts out are all car owner infos in Switzerland public. So you have some 90% chance to get the name.

Step two: Look up the name in the phone book. For example here: http://tel.search.ch

Call the guy up and tell him to move his car if he doesn't want it towed.

End of story.

My web-fu is really strong today.

He's probably down there writing it down... give him a minute!

get a tow-rope. Drag it away.

or

park behind him so you're blocking his exit.

Yep, you should write on the note that you would call the police if it isn't moved.

And then this evening we can enjoy reading another EFer complaining how quick the Swiss are to involve the Police in everything!

Is this in an apartment building? In our old building the caretaker had the power to give out tickets. Get in touch with them and see if they can give them a ticket.

Thank you. I don't see the thanks button ... may be, I don't have enough posts. The owner finally turned-up, apologized and removed the car.

By the way, I was always hoping this case to be resolved, without any bad exchanges with the car owner or involving police, etc.

Well then, you did the right thing, you just waited for him to turn up and leave.

Step one is too good - i didn't know this information is so open !

Aww, I'd made a coffee and got a plate of biscuits ready an' everything...

Last time someone parked in my spot I honked for 5 minutes until the culprit came out of one of the neighbouring houses.

...... how very very proper and Swiss

Hey guys, i currently have a similar situation... sold my car, the guy took the papers and the keys and told me he was going to pick up some temporary plates to drive it back to his car-selling business...

There has been 5 days since and my ex-car without the plates is still parking in my spot, the guy didnt came to pick it up... in case this extends, what should/can do?

Hope it he takes it as soon as possible, but what if not?

Well, since you have a contract with him you surely got his phone number and could call him?

I hope he paid for the car

Tell him that you will charge 10 CHF for every day that he hasn't picked it up

Already did, he couldnt take it the day he bought it because he couldnt get the temporar plates from my canton and he needed ones from zurich apparently and that he was going to take it on monday... its tuesday and my ex car is still here...

Car is paid yes, thats no problem, but i need the spot for the car im going to buy
