Sony Vaio Laptop disc crash

Hello there!

I live in Lausanne and have a laptop, Sony Model PCG-8QGP. I am afraid the disc drive was crashed. It does not start windows and nothing we tried could fix it. Does anyone know where I can take it to, to replace the disc drive?

Thanks.

Hülya

If it is less then a year old, then sony should replace the hard drive under warranty. If it is not then you have no warranty to protect anyway so you may as well replace the drive yourself.

If you have all your software discs save yourself a packet and do it yourself. You can by a hard drive for as little as 100-150CHF in media markt or somewhere like that. You will be looking for a 2.5 inch drive of a similar or greater capacity as the one that was in your computer. There should be a little hard drive icon on the base of the computer where the drive is situated, one or two screw will probably hold it in and once these are out it literally just pops out and the new one slides in. Then put your operating system CD in the CD drive and follow the instructions to install the operating system.

First make sure you have the operating system discs and any software you require.

Ask to borrow a 2.5 inch external case so you can put the drive in there, hook it up to another laptop, and get data off if possible. Then put a new drive in the laptop, and transfer the data back.

are u sure its the hdd that went wrong? make sure before buying a new one. swiss sony warranty service (comdat.ch) is near zurich, far from your place.

Hi,

You can send me an email at [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) and I'll help you out. We do this type of thing professionally. Our company offers warranty on what we repair and can come to your home if needed.

I look forward to hearing from you.

it's a standard 9mm drive so treat yourself to a 7200rpm drive and then use the CDs which came with the laptop to rebuild it.

As mentioned if you have data an external housing might help get this back.

I thank to all those who take time and effort to reply.

Yesterday I found the rescue disc which came with the laptop (We had bought it 2,5 years ago in Dubai) and at the cost of losing the data I had on it, we managed to start it again.

Once again thank you for your concern.
