Good Morning
We are leaving Zurich next month after a wonderful 6 years here. I would really like to buy some beautiful souvenirs to remind us of our time here.
My original idea was to buy fridge magnets, may be a Cuckoo clock and some T Shirts. Does anybody has 'better' ideas? Also any idea where I can get a Cuckoo clock that doesnt burn a hole in pocket. I tried in the souvenir shops in the city however had no luck. Alternatively, if anyone knows of a purveyor of cheap (i.e. a few francs per piece) Swiss souvenirs anywhere in the country, I'd be pleased to know.
Thanks for your help, Eva.
A cow bell!
You can buy the real ones (as in not the tourist ones you find in souvenir shops) in Landi stores: http://www.landi.ch
Fondue set?
Or go all out and instead of an animal head for the wall get a Waggi mask! It would be a great talking point LOL
We try to buy a mug in every country we visit, not necessarily with the flag, but with something that reminds us of the holiday.
It's something useful (for me, it has to be usable, I'm not into knick knacks), and brings back memories every time you have a cuppa .
Something like this (sorry about the website, but you get the picture )

Thank you for the lovely suggestions. Any ideas where to get a cost effective cuckoo clock, or perhaps a big plate / saucer with names of cantons engrossed / painted?
Is that not more of an American thing?
Look around a Brocki haus, examine items well for any cracks etc
maybe get something old although not yet antique
Those tall blue ist drinking cups without handles, believe they keep drinks cool ist. The older bars have them in a corner, though rarely in use. Have seem them in Brocki haus.
Tea-Towels are easy to pack, look out for designs to do with Switzerland, flowers, canton maps etc. Though many have dishwashers, there is still the odd thing needs hand washing, crystal and the like & some people never put glasses into a dishwasher & polish cutlery.
Careful! Cuckoo clocks are German, not Swiss
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cuckoo_clock hence the raison you might not find them easily.
Check out "Heimatwerk" in Zurich they have really nice things (and not all are that expensive). I agree with fondue set, also cotton towels they have nice ones. Also a "Sparschäler" is very Swiss http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Fi...r_Rex_Star.jpg you can find them for example at Sibler in Zurich but Migros might have them as well. Also nice paper napkins with Swiss designs.
If you stay a little longer watch out for the 1. August decoration stuff.
Don ́t forget the allmighty b a n d a n a....
Here is what I would bring back, a warm swiss blanket:

Swiss tram sign.
Although its not to be laugh at, the guys on the trams with saws and wearing crampons really do a lot of damage.
Germany, as that's where they come from!
Tom
pretty swiss watches, or decorations for the kitchen
They have more variety or are easy on pocket?
Well they don't sell a lot of stuff there, but they do sell a lot of typical Alpen goods...cuckoo clocks, horns you can drink your Meade or beer from, gold stuff, and for some strange reason the largest available collections of Hitler stamps in the world. Apparently they are one of the few counties to ban that stuff. And yeah is should be cheaper and open on a Sunday.
Also they sell Lichtenstein beer there that is better then most mass produced Swiss beer, and far more interesting to talk about with people, even with Swiss people here. Swiss Franc is their currency.
For even cheaper stuff, but more of a drive...
There is a tax free zone located at Samnaun, CH. If you want even cheaper.
