Hello everyone!
Does anyone know what does one need to do to become a speech pathologist in Switzerland? I Have a MA in psychology and the field that interests me the most is psycholinguistics. My dream is to work with children with all kinds of speech and language problems. I have worked with autistic children before as well as Williams syndrome and that is that is what I'd like to keep doing.
Could anyone give me any tips on where to go, who to talk to?....
Thanks a lot!

Great! Thanks again!
I have one more question: Do you know any psychologists that test kids for dyslexia, IQ, etc? I tried to ask for a contact at an International school of Basel but unfortunately they only disclose that information to parents. As I mentioned before I have experience working with children with autism and other disorders. Do you know where around Basel, Zurich, Bern can I can find people helping these children?
Thank you again for all the help!
Ok I'm helping you here but really, all this information is out there if you simply google autismus spectrum störung Basel ...
But have a browse through these sites to start you off. My son (autistic) is under Prof Weber in the neuro entwicklungspaediatrie department of the Kinderspital, although has various other doctors in Jura and Lausanne but I am thinking you want German speaking. Finally there is a diagnostic service for more minor special educational needs that is run by the Kinderspital in Basel and what is interesting about them is that they offer diagnosis in French and also in English. Their website has just not jumped up infront of my eyes.

To be a speech pathologist in Switzerland you'll need to have a perfect command of the language spoken in the area where you'll be working.
In the french speaking part, a Master in Logopédie (Logopädie) is a must. This is a specific Master, distinct from a Master in Psychology here.
The studies are very competitive (like 50 students in Master classes and only 15-20 get the grade - one friend of mine is going through that). In other words to work here as a speech therapist would probably require additional academic courses or at least an update, this of course, only after previous recognition of your diploma.
Good luck
But there are also plenty of private speech pathologists also working within the expat community and indeed there is a total dearth of mother tongue
English speaking ones in the Basel area. If OP is mother tongue English, this could be a possible opening.
I'm curious as to whether you understand something different from a speech therapist to a speech pathologist, as certainly speech therapy diplomas can be obtained from fachhochschule without the need to go as far as a masters degree. The two speech therapists who work with my son seem to use the terms (at least in French) fairly interchangeably, but I did wonder whether using the term speech pathology implied they had some different sort of training. As I am going for one of our regular "Mummy and Me" therapy sessions next week, I'll try to remember to ask.
Logopédie/Logopädie here is a reglemented profession. There are differences in the requirement reg . the diplomas, which vary between the cantons.
The EDK/CDIP, as the competent official body, recommands a bachelor degree at the minimum. The Fachhochschule Nordwestschweiz (Pädagogische Hochschule at FHNW) offers indeed such a study programme.

Thanks. As I thought. I was confused by the term Masters in your previous post.
