You need to inform the police and/or Jagdaufsicht (no idea what the translation is) and if I remember correctly, no, you can´t keep it.
Sometimes it helps to inform the driver ahead that he should pull over and not hog the left lane.
Is the wrong answer.
I had this happen many times driving half way across across Italy on Monday; all lanes are all fairly occupied, I’m in lane 3 of 3, going slightly faster than lane 2 but leaving a sufficient gap between me and the car in front. Italian driver then comes screaming up behind me, sometime flashing lights as well, demanding that I move over to lane 2. If I did I would then have to slow down to avoid getting too close to the car in front, wait for a suitable gap in lane 3 again and accelerate out again.
Nope, I’m staying right here, TYVM. Just because I’m leaving more of a gap in front than you think is appropriate doesn’t give you the right to get past me and use it, presumably to repeat the process and try to intimidate the next driver in front as well.
Isn’t that normal driving practice in Italy, though? I think I’ve got PTSD from having to drive along the motorway down to Tuscany a few years back. If you left a gap of more than about 1.5 car lengths in front of you, some bugger would be in it.
(you get used…)
Yeah, but it doesn’t make it right. Just once did someone get so pissed off that they then started weaving through lanes 1 and 2 as well as the hard shoulder overtaking and undertaking in such a fashion that even the Italian police would have felt moved to take action.
Mostly they do it without a lot of thought or intent and will just sit there a couple of cars lengths’ behind until the traffic in front clears.
Quite funny to watch them as I accelerate up to my chosen cruising speed of around 150kph on the clock and they drop back, as they actually don’t want to go that fast.
I was about to mention that in the nice motorways in Italy. In good conditions I cruise at 145 kmh and chill. Eventually someone blocks the 3rd lane, slow down a bit, lower gear and accelerate once again.
But, I’m happy when someone drives faster. Let pass this person who will accelerate and break a lot while bothering drivers ahead. Just follow 200-300m behind and enjoy the open road.
You need a better car if you’re having to go down a gear to get back up to speed.
It came with very long gearing to achieve a top speed that looks nice ads. At 120 is at 1900 RPM in top gear. Nice for cruising in comfort but if you push the pedal not much happens. So, 2 gears down for better torque.
Anyway, shifting, steering and braking is where is the fun is. If the purpose is doing nothing, wife can drive
One must realize that Italians drive as if they own the road. After all the did invent the Autobahn.
Is that why Teslas are self driving?
No idea. Driving is not a chore, it’s a weekend hobby.
It would appear your reading comprehension skills are as bad as your driving knowledge.
Firstly, I was describing single lane roads.
I made no mention of motorways.
Secondly, even if I was thinking of motorways, you ought to lose that sense of entitlement you appear to have by assuming that people need to move out of the way for you and if they don’t you will force them to do so illegally.
Like I said, you need a better car… Even my heavy underpowered Landrover is happy to accelerate at that sort of speed. Well, after I “chipped” it, anyway.
Ahhhh, we differ on the expectations of acceleration
120 → 150 should be as quick as 50 → 80. Otherwise, I just chill on the middle lane and avoid blocking people.
You can almost tell by the posts the sort of person who will sit in the overtaking lane.
And the sort of people who’ll angrily tailgate and flash those who prefer to leave an appropriate gap…
I’ve always wondered how this analogy translates to women motorists. Big generous jugs and you’re a sedate driver of a sedate car. Barely-there-bee-stings and you’re a maniac in a hot hatchback.
With all the psychologizing about dicks and car types and driving styles - what is the going psych assessment on people who constantly have to lecture others?
