it's spelled "Z" or "The Big Z" because of how boring it is.
Regarding the umlaut, we just moved to a street called Tüelenstrasse - with an umlaut U followed by an e. So I suppose it could also be spelled Tueelenstrasse?
Often when I explain the üe part people look at me with pity as if to say "poor love doesn't even know the unlaut rule......."

When you can't write the umlaut, then yes. üe is a different sound from ü / ue .
